I went out to lunch with the old actors group today, and since it was a waterfront joint, they all insisted we eat out on the deck.  They didn't have their umbrellas up, and I think I got a little too much sun.

And I am home! I had hoped to be out of Toyland by 1:30,but by the time I finished up the vocal score edits and tidied up for Friday, it was 2:30.  There's an unwritten law that as soon as I leave the building on 27th Street and head for the bus stop, the bus comes and I miss it trying to cross Sixth Avenue.  So, I had to wait for the next bus, and then at Broadway and 60th I kept wondering where the hell the 104 buses were. Now I know: 8th Avenue has been closed off because of attempts to rescue stranded window washers hanging off the 46th floor at 57th Street.

Now . . . a trip to the post office. There must be a full moon!

Ok those window washers had a much worse day at work than I have ever had

Nice to see  a spiffed up area...

Been on the busy side... Working part time over night hours at a youth treatment facility. Granted, I am not what you call qualified from the educational standard so I work overnights babysitting sleeping kids. I also clean. Better than nothing at the moment but the overnights are wearing on me.

Dental work is proceeding. Through a dental program I am getting my teeth fixed. Have had two surgeries already and possibly one more... At least the Sinus infections are go so that is a good thing.

Getting back to creative writing. I'm actually finding writing to be a good release. Still doing genealogy.

Presently on a hunt for a new apartment. The one I am living in has been sold and the landlord is kicking everyone out of hte building and we have to be out by the end of hte month. We were informed the Tuesday after Memorial Day. Not a lot of time... Not a lot of apartments available that are reasonably priced. They are either expensive or owned by one of two slumlords: Goldmark and Van Raden.

Great to see you, Dakota.  I am glad you found a part-time job while you look for something full-time.  Sorry about your apartment.  In Washington, at least, they have to give you sixty days after the sale.

I would like to post that my East Coast Patty Melt was delicious.

BTW, the reason I ordered such a thing at an International House of Pancakes?  That, my dear DRs, was the first place I ever had a patty melt.  Ever.  Cleveland, ca-1970.  Now, who the hell knows how similar this was to one of their 1970 ones?  I certainly wouldn't pretend to know.  But it was sooooo good!

And thanks to being in an original IHOP building, I could absolutely identify the booth (within a margin of error of one booth in either direction) that my friend and I sat in while having those first patty melts.

Disclaimer:  I make no claim to greatness of food in an IHOP, but it's one of those places in which certain things resonate, just like certain Howard Johnson's foods did.

From DR TCB:
Quote
I beg your pardon!

Generally speaking, IMHO.  When was the last time your rent was raised?  Considering how many years you have lived in your place you should be appreciated.

Good point!  I know I am appreciated.  Sadly, my apartment manager that was so patient with me during that last year or so of my employment; will be moving to England in September.

bummer on that news..

I have been in this apartment for 12 years.. Man, I have gotten a lot of stuff... Oh welll

I know just what you mean.  Physically, there is no way I could move right now.

From today's NY Times:

Introducing the cronutthe new Frankenpastry that is half croissant, half doughnut. Yes, yes, the daily supply of 300 at Dominique Ansel’s SoHo bakery is gone in a flash, even with a limit of two per person. It’s delectably cream-filled and flakily layered. But really, it’s just the latest iteration of the croissant in the last 325 years or so.

I have always enjoyed IHOP food, as long as I don't have to eat their pancakes.

In honor of Alan Thicke and Gloria Loring's son Robin Thicke topping the pop charts, per the NY Times
(comment under:
http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/06/12/queens-of-the-stone-age-earns-its-first-no-1/    see 5th paragraph]

Tune of FACTS OF LIFE theme (written by Robin Thicke’s folks)

You take your mom, you take your dad
And don’t that make you really glad
The facts of life are facts of life

Your dad was known for Growin’ Pains
That it could make you go insane’s
A fact of life, a fact of life

But your old mom and pop
Gave you skill to get to the top
And hopefully you’ll never stop
And hopefully you’ll never flop, too

Sometimes life cuts like a dull knife
But this week cheer the facts of life!
Singing ‘bout facts of life

Love it.

DR John G, the whisky cake looks good though I wouldn't call it a fruitcake ;)
With three pounds of fruit in it?

Sounds like fruitcake to me. Will be happy to determine the case upon receipt of a large slice.

We'll see how it ages.

I love a good fruitcake - no liquor please, just honest-to-goodness fruitcake - however, it's hugely caloric, worse than pie.

No liquor? What's the point?

Did any of our dear readers or, of course, BK; see THE BOY FROM OZ on Broadway?  I probably should be asking Kevin Spiritis, since he understudied Hugh Jackman and never once went on for him.  I did not see the show, but I have pieced it together on You Tube. so I fell like I have seen most of the show.  What puzzles me is that at the end of the show, Peter Allen (Hugh Jackman) stands centerstage and sings "Once Before I Go."  At the end of the number, the lights never go completely out, and Jackman continues to stand ceterstage.  Eventually he steps out of character and accepts the ovation, which by that point as become a standing ovation.  Finally the ovation stops and Jackman has like three more lines before the final curtain and the curtain call.  Why the heck didn't they just end the show with that song, or totally go to black and then when the applause dies bring the lights up on Jackman somewhere else on the stage for the final lines (like sitting at his piano)?  It just kills the moment and the tears the way they did it.

Three piles: thrift store, file 13, and what is being moved...

Had a good time playing in flute choir tonight.  It was the at a municipal band concert and we played one tune.  It was in a gazebo in a park with people in folding chairs and wrapped in blankets (it was cold). It was really fun. We goofed off and just had a good time together.
