Did any of our dear readers or, of course, BK; see THE BOY FROM OZ on Broadway? I probably should be asking Kevin Spiritis, since he understudied Hugh Jackman and never once went on for him. I did not see the show, but I have pieced it together on You Tube. so I fell like I have seen most of the show. What puzzles me is that at the end of the show, Peter Allen (Hugh Jackman) stands centerstage and sings "Once Before I Go." At the end of the number, the lights never go completely out, and Jackman continues to stand ceterstage. Eventually he steps out of character and accepts the ovation, which by that point as become a standing ovation. Finally the ovation stops and Jackman has like three more lines before the final curtain and the curtain call. Why the heck didn't they just end the show with that song, or totally go to black and then when the applause dies bring the lights up on Jackman somewhere else on the stage for the final lines (like sitting at his piano)? It just kills the moment and the tears the way they did it.
