A SIDE OF NOTES OR HALF NOTES

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were not whole notes but half notes, and now it is time for you to post until the whole cows come home at half time.

In my Blu-ray player:  "At Long Last Love"! :D Also, "Oz: the Great and Powerful."  I bought that at Costco and it turned out, unbeknownst to me, that there was an $8 rebate!  It was cheaper than Amazon!

In my DVD Burner:  The 67th Annual Tony Awards.  I'm burning it to a (standard) DVD.

And I finally did it...I upgraded to the latest iTunes.  I held off because of all the troubles that people have been having.  But "Oz: the Great and Powerful" includes the Digital Copy and I wanted to download the iTunes version.  However, IT WOULDN'T WORK! :( I went to the website, entered the code, which then displayed an iTunes code and automatically opened up iTunes, but then it just stopped.  The movie wouldn't download.  I e-mailed the support e-mail and they sent me another code, but that didn't work either!  So, I can only wonder if it's either my operating system (Windows XP) or the older version of iTunes.  If this doesn't work, I give up.  There's nothing else I can do.

But, at least, the Blu-ray itself had the rebate. :)

Yes. It is still raining.

Dog ownership is fun. But it's more fun when it's not raining.    :)

DR Vixmom's basement must be in the Hamptons by now!

'Happy Birthday' lawsuit demands Warner Music pay back millions in royalties

Quote
It's a song known around the world; "Happy Birthday to You" is performed, heard, and played millions of times every day, but it's also a major moneymaker for Warner Music subsidiary Warner/Chappell, which owns the copyright to the song. Jennifer Nelson, a filmmaker who was producing a documentary on the song, discovered that to use the track in a single scene would cost $1,500. Although she agreed to the fee and signed a licensing deal, she's now filed a lawsuit in the hope that a New York court will invalidate Warner Music's copyright claim.

Nelson says that the song, which is an adaption of the 19th Century song "Good Morning to All," is in the public domain. A full copy of the filing, available at Techdirt, makes for entertaining reading. The lawsuit says that "irrefutable documentary evidence" dating back as far as 1893 shows that the copyright to any part of the song expired no later than 1921. It adds that if Warner Music "owns any rights to Happy Birthday to You, those rights are limited to the extremely narrow right to reproduce and distribute specific piano arrangements for the song published in 1935." The filing calls for the song to be made public domain, and asks that Warner Music pay back the millions of dollars it's collected through "unlawful licensing fees."

Good morning, all!

Time to finish up this ROBERTA megillah.  I'll meet Peter around 11am at Toyland, and we'll begin printing the orchestra parts. I'll tape the parts while he works at the computer. We can hopefully finish up the printing tomorrow. I'll be taping for several days. I have no other plans for the weekend. If I grab a moment, I'll watch a DVD.

DR cillaliz, your pest problem is so much worse than my mouse situation and that was driving me up the wall. I hope you catch the raccoon soon and have a nice weekend.

TOD
DVD:  two Netflix items sit here and I've forgotten what they are! I also want to get to the BBC GOOD COMPANIONS miniseries
CD:  DEAREST ENEMY (too late for fixes, but I'd sure like to make one!). Guy Haines,
   VCR:  Smut

Wow, did she make that deal just to do this lawsuit?

I will probably do that, too, one of these days, but I'm listening to Michael John LaChiusa's score for the musical version. This is the most melodic score of his career, and also one of his best. Just loving it.  Best score I've heard since "Eileen."

Friday morning greetings!  It's a gloriously beautiful morning in SW Ohio, perfect garage sale weather.  I'm headed over there in a couple of hours for an early afternoon shift.

I recorded BATHING BEAUTY yesterday off of TCM.  The movie doesn't really interest me except for the fact that Basil Rathbone is in it.  It's one of his that I've never seen.
