We had storms yesterday too.  I'm convinced there is a causal relationship between the trapper putting in fresh bait and heavy rain to dampen the scent on the fresh bait

The raccoon is still in residence but doesn't appear to be digging anymore. I could be wrong, but I've stopped being afraid that it's trying to get into my living space.  I want it gone and to fix the hole, but I've relaxed about it.  It's just going to take time.  I'm cautiously optimistic it will end soon

Woops.  I just remembered we're supposedly back into weather appropriate for JUNE, and opened some windows.

It's actually more appropriate for mid/late May.  But we'll take the crumbs we're given.

Saturday morning greetings!  More perfect weather for day 2 of the Middletown AAUW garage sale.  Half-price sale starts at noon, so I may go over and check on the vintage Vera Bradley bags.

Travel vibes for BK - wave when you fly over Ohio!  Oh, and say HI to my relatives who are in DC for a graduation party today and sightseeing tomorrow and Monday.

Just read a wonderful one-star Goodreads review of the new Hofstetter book, won in the little giveaway I always do.  I read with quiet fascination how the plot was boring, that no sixteen-year-old would ever call her mother mommy without irony, and that the other young characters were stereotypes, that Adriana as a journalist would embrace social media because it's, well, social media, that Adriana hates technology but has an iPhone and a Mac (the perils of coming into a series without having read the previous books, of course), and, to top it off, how I maligned and made mockery of this girl's favorite musical.  Then I looked at the girl who wrote it - all of seventeen if she's a day and one would be quite certain that this girl does love social media, thrives on it, doesn't call her mother mommy, irony or not and probably hasn't for years, and, best of all, amongst the books she has read recently and loathed (she loathes a LOT of books) was Lord of the Flies, which she found not well written.  I'm in very good company. :)

She also says that I say Adriana is "pretty" - it's funny, but other than her clothing and style I don't believe I've ever actually described Miss Hofstetter and I haven't done so on purpose.  One is tempted to leave a little response, but Goodreads encourages one not to - in other words, why should a seventeen-year-old "critic" be criticized?  Whether one agrees or not, I think all critics should be criticized if warranted and when you write a review like that I think it's all fair game.  I think if William Golding were alive, he might just drop her a missive.

From DR Cilla:
Quote
My mom told me that a woman in our home town let in a raccoon as sort of a pet.  When the DNR heard about it they called her and told her she couldn't have a wild animal as a pet.  They asked what it was doing at that moment she said "Sitting on the couch watching TV". And it was!

Funny! :)

Jane wrote yesterday: "Today my sister would have been 69.  It is sad I went from her adoring little sister to being relieved when she was gone.  I like to remember her like this, before the abuse towards me was the norm and she was more often than not a wonderful big sister."

Jane, it's interesting about sibling issues - my brother has been different in the last month to seven weeks or so, pretty much rewriting the past, and people are telling me they always saw that side of him all the years.

Yes it is interesting.  Keith never saw the good side of her and he met her when we were 15, which I find interesting.  It got really bad after we started dating & things were really falling apart with my mother.  My father was a mess and all she did was cause problems instead of helping.  I would defend her to Keith and tell him about all the wonderful things she did for me when we were young.  He only watched it get worse over the years until I finally stopped defending her-very sad.  It is much easier to walk away from people who are not in your family.

I agree it best not to say anything.  When I look at reviews I look at a variety of opinions to get a better feel for my personal reaction to a book.  A poor review sometimes makes me more interested in the book than all the best reviews do.  It is a combination of both really that helps me decide to read or not to read.

Ladies and gentlemen  AND THE PIPS  (Have we seen this here lately, the Pips without Gladys Knight)

That's funny!  The Three Mo' Tenors did that same bit on their DVD...but I couldn't find a YouTube clip.  They are very good.  This DVD and the CD are highly recommended! ;D

Well, today's going to be a day.  I am going to my sister's in a bit (I must take a shower and get dressed first) and we're going to look for a birthday gift for our mom because her birthday is tomorrow!  The same day as Father's Day.  I got my dad a CD and I'm sure that my sister has something for him, also.

After we look and/or find something for mom, I have to usher tonight at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts for Masterworks Choral Ensemble: Pop Meets the Classics.  My friend Margo is ushering also, so we're planning on going out to eat after the show.  It'll be a long, but fun day.

1 star is pretty harsh. And she said a lot of very harsh things. But at least it is obvious that she read the book. And at least she articulated exactly what she didn't like about it.
