Because tomorrow I will be stuck at Toyland waiting on a paper delivery and because on Friday I will be taping and printing orchestra parts, I am doing the laundry this afternoon. It's about time to take the clothes out of the dryers.

And then I must give some thought to dinner.

Wouldn't that be amazing? The current version on sale has supposedly been "remastered," but I don't know how much it helps in this case. And you can hear some of those details, to varying degree, in the many other versions on CD. But none of them have that incredible original cast.

What I would love is if someone could take the quadrophonic mix of the album (I have a not-so-good copy), and mix it into surround sound! That would be cool!

The original London cast recording of "Into the Woods" was recorded in actual "Surround Sound." I remember reading at the time that that was the very first cast album to do that.

Topic of the Day:

The first Sondheim (at all) I can remember experiencing is the movie version of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." I remember (a Sondheim reference!) my sister and I watching that on Saturday afternoons when we were kids.

The first album that I remember listening to was "Sweeney Todd." I don't know why I remember this, but I was in eighth grade and had to do a report on geothermal energy. My mom took me to the local Timberland library (where I now work, but not at that specific branch) and I checked out a couple of records to listen to while I was ~~copying~~ writing my paper and I happened to check out a couple of Broadway cast albums. One was "Ain't Misbehavin'" and the other was "Sweeney Todd." I listened to ST a couple of times and fell in love with it. I fell in love with AM instantly. Both of these are two of my all time favorite cast albums and shows. I've seen a couple of productions of both and they're still wonderful!

The first Sondheim show that I actually performed in was "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." I played Hero and that was just over 21 years ago!

The first live tour that I saw was "Into the Woods." The national tour came to the Washington Center for the Performing Arts after the Broadway production and the whole family went to see it. The memory that sticks out the most was that both Princes were not very good.

"All Fall Down" is Real Player on my computer. The other clips play on Windows Media File.

Alvin Ing (the original Shogun's mother and so many other great parts in Pacific Overtures) was at a party we went to on Sunday and I told him about the "Chrysanthemem Tea Party" video I had done with our neighbor Sheree Sano. I sent it to him through the friend whose party it was - no idea if Alvin actually watched it, but what a nice guy and wonderful to meet him, and many other wonderful people.

DR George, I guess I'd heard about it at some point but had totally forgotten about that quad LP of COMPANY. Might be gimmicky as all hell, who knows -- but I'd sure like to hear it.

I can't remember what one needed to play those, besides obviously one of those lovely humongous Sansui (or other) receivers, and the four speakers. But if you have a surround system now, how would it -- or could it -- decode those into something or other?

Stupid question: It didn't also take a special stylus, did it? (I don't think so.)

HMMM.....I am not sure about a special stylus, but you certainly had to have a special receiver to separate the four channels.....
