Also in consonance with the heat wave out west and in the pacific northwest (of all places!), here is an offering from Cole Porter and Ann Miler:

Too Darn Hot

Thank you.  I wish I could have seen more of her footwork.

Tuesday afternoon greetings from my last session at McCormick Place!  Finished up the exhibit hall this morning, then had a nice lunch with Richard.  He's waiting for me in a lounge area with a view of Lake Michigan and I'm celebrating the 60th anniversary of FAHRENHEIT 451.

DR Ginny, do you mean the actual date, or just the year 1953?

Is it even possible to find out day/date for books of that vintage?

The Far Horizons / Secret of the Incas CD just arrived!

And with a record-setting 9 out of the 12 little teeth on the hub broken off.    :)

EDIT:  All fixed!

According to wikipedia: "First published in 1953 by Ballantine Books, Fahrenheit 451 is twice as long as "The Fireman". A few months later, the novel was serialized in the March, April, and May 1954 issues of Playboy."

I Googled the book title, selected the wikipedia page and the information was therein.

Yeah, it's almost futile to point out one celebrity or otherwise famous person's birthday .... as though they're the only one.

Right.  I'm just wondering whether or not the actual day/date of release is known.

Wikipdeia has a section that reads:

Publication history[edit]

The first U.S. printing was in October 1953 by The Ballantine Publishing Group. This first edition was printed with asbestos binding. The second U.S. Printing was in April 1991. In January 1967, the Revised Bal-Hi Edition was printed and in March 1967, the Special Book Club Edition was printed. The first Canadian printing was in October 1953 and the seventh printing was in October 1972.[16]

The book has also been adapted into a 4.5-hour-long audiobook.[17]

The novel was released as an e-book in December 2011.[18][19]

I don't know if an actual "numerical date" is findable.

That's a nice shirt in that photo MR BK.

I was going to say the same. I don't think I have ever seen BK in anything so colorful.

I supposed it wasn't as shirt from your own wardrobe.

It was a very hot weekend, which I spent as a volunteer at the India-US Friendship booth on both Saturday and Sunday.

Despite the horrid heat, it was a lot of fun and I made many new friends.

Yesterday I remembered to take the camera to the pond when I went to watch the fish.  After many tries I captured a good school of them.

Even more difficult was capturing them eating.  Some of the fish get very excited, make lots of bubbles & ripples & come partially out of the water.  If you look closely you can see the fish on the top left is partially out of the water.

DR SlipShod, we did get a lot of people signed up for Sneha's free Bollywood dance lesson. She was trying to see if there was enough interest to begin regular lessons. A lot of people signed up!

Despite the friggin hottness, the World Beat Festival was quite well attended. We had way more volunteers at our booth then we needed most of the time, so it all become very social for us, just sitting around chatting and (for me) getting to know other members and/or getting to know those better whom I already knew (I am one of the newest members). Majority of group's members are from India (the group begin in the late 70s), a few are Britains, and then there are a smattering of American's.

We only had one tiny little fan in the ten, and all of us were huddled around it most of the time. For awhile there were so many members of our group (either volunteers or those just stopping by to say hi) in the tent, that there was no room for any of the festival's attendents to come in and view the movie posters or see the movie clips playing on the TV.

I am going to suggest that for next year we have all the displays sitting outside the tent, so the social time can go on inside the tent without detracting from people seeing the goodies.
