DR Chas, your Lawry's link included an old favorite of mine, Zito's. It was on Pico Blvd, a few blocks west of Westwood. A neighboring Italian family took me there when I was maybe ten years old and I fell in love with their food. That is where I developed a taste for really tangy Italian salad dressing. I do miss that place!

There were a number of places on that link I want to thoroughly check out.  I know there are zillions of sites like that, but when I find one with any promise at all, I bookmark it.

TOD 2: I miss really good old-fashioned ice cream sodas, especially the kind with cherries and vanilla ice cream, a squirt of syrup and soda water.

I was just talking to someone yesterday about wanting to find some ice cream sodas, and to the best of our knowledge, the only place around here that you can PROBABLY get a halfway decent authentic one would be Denny's.  Isn't that sad?  And maybe Friendly's, which is a place I've been to all of once or twice in my life.

The upcoming soundtrack album sounds like another all-out winner.

Perhaps Jeanne will finally leave her home environment and meet me at the Piece o' Pizza.  If I had said "Had a piece lately" to her back in 1962 when we met she would have hit me.

LOL. No, in 1962, I doubt that I would have known what it meant. I'm not sure you would have, either!

Of course, it's quite possible that Bruce could have said all sorts of things to me then that went over my head. I do still remember your Jackie Mason joke, do you? (That was about 1965, I think.)

DR ChasSmith - is the Marcus Dairy at the entrance to the Danbury Fair Mall no longer? I would have thought that they'd have wonderful ice cream sodas...

;D

I only remember eating at the one on Pico and only because it was cheap and someone else wanted to go there.

Here's a bit of the background behind the J.K. Rowling leak (and it wasn't Rowling):
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/18/jk-rowling-leak_n_3617724.html?ncid=edlinkusaolp00000009

I feel bad for the lawyer.  I expect the lawyer & his wife are no longer friends with the tweeter.

That was a harsh (and understandable) finality to Rowling's assessment of the firm.

Yes and sad.  I wonder what the legal consequences will be to the lawyer.  I was impressed the spoil sport's tweet account was closed, but then am I wrong thinking "tweet" shut her down?
Twitter would not have shut her down. And nothing she wrote was incorrect.

Thanks.

I would be quite happy to join you one day at Piece o' Pizza. I may have to bring my cane, though. I could hit you with that.

We have two food trucks that specialize in crepes. And both are very good. Silly thing is that people in San Antonio have no idea what crepes are, so the truck crews have taken to calling them French enchiladas.

That's both very funny and very sad.

There are two quite good French bistros near me--affordable, no less--but neither serves crepes. Harrrumph!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the Marcus Dairy is no more.  They sold to a developer a couple of years ago, and the site is now "The Shops at Marcus Dairy".  Completely rebuilt, of course.  Only the historic silo remains.  Whole Foods (the city's first), a Petco, couple of other things.

You know what an incredible bikers' hangout it was, right?  They've had no such place to go on Sundays since it closed, but I just heard that they're about to reinstate the tradition, to be held in the parking lot next to the aforementioned silo.

I tried to buy The Washington Post at the Metro station this morning, but the door of the newspaper machine wouldn't open.  My five quarters came out when I pushed the button, though.  Then I got to DC and tried to use another machine.  This time I only got three quarters back.  Then I looked at the "quarters" and saw that one of them was a 10 pence coin I had left over from my trip to England.  I don't know if the other two coins were quarters or not!   In my defense, the coins are the same size.

Funny.

Wow.  Thanks, DR Jane.  Why don't I ever think of checking YouTube for things?  But yikes -- that prime rib thing is completely new to me, probably because I wasn't around Magic Pans the last couple of years they were in existence.

Oh, that's too bad, DR ChasSmith - I didn't know. Yes, I was aware of the bikers, but I wasn't in the area on weekends. For many years I worked in two different office buildings on hills overlooking the mall.

I was rather shocked.  Prime rib is very different from crepes-lol

Thanks, DR Jane! A town in Portugal apparently does this occasionally. Not sure if it's for the tourists or the locals.

It has cooled down to 91. Time to take the dog out for a little stroll.

Yikes.  Was one of them Lee Farm Corporate Park?  That's where I worked from 1989 till 2002.

There was a Magic Pan in San Mateo when I was growing up.  I even remember then (being young) that crepes were a "fad" and that only younger adults went there.  (including my mother).

Now here's a woman talking about her crepe restaurant in Hawaii called "Le Magic Pan".  She goes on for eight minutes, relating the various ways she and her husband got the ideas for the restaurant, in Paris, New York, etc. etc. -- and never once acknowledges a 240-store chain called "The Magic Pan" that was there first.  I don't know which is worse -- to think she doesn't wish to acknowledge it, or to think she never even heard of it.  Maybe I just believe too much in researching things.
