As far as I know, this was the first musical I saw on stage, just after we'd moved from Ohio to Florida. We'd just seen the movie the year before, and I was blown away at discovering what an incredible thing a musical was. This stage production, as lacking as it might have been (who knows? -- but the auditorium, more like a convention center, was just horrible for that type of thing) reaffirmed the magic and was a life changer.

I haven't been able to figure out what my first play might have been. Most likely a "Little Theatre" production in Fort Lauderdale, as opposed to anything professional.

Other early shows for which I have no playbill are an outer space rock musical of Titus Andronicus and Dracula, both at Actors Theatre of Louisville, and a tour of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers with Howard Keel and Jane Powell.

I still have the T-shirt from Andronicus, which means it's about 37 years ago. On it are the words "A pie fit for a space queen. In it you'll find your two murdering sons."

It's a miracle I even have that program - and not one, but two copies. My grandmother took me, no one else went, and with all the stuff thrown out or otherwise lost over the years, I was just amazed when I found it. There are a few other early ones I would kill to see now.

I sat in the back row of the orchestra section to see A Chorus Line at Symphony Hall in Phoenix many many years ago. I didn't really get hooked on musicals until I took DR Sandra to see Phantom of the Opera in LA when she was seven years old.

TOD - my first show that had a "Playbill" was a touring company of THE MUSIC MAN, starring Forrest Tucker and Joan Weldon at Detroit's Riviera Theatre in March of 1960. In Detroit, Playbills were called On Stage:

When the Fisher Theatre replaced the Riviera, the title of the playbill became STAGE. My first show there was THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN, starring Harve Presness and BK's friend Karen Morrow. My grandmother and I went to a matinee on August 1, 1962.

Mine from Detroit are full of car ads - mostly GM because the Fisher Theatre is in the Fisher Building, as in "Body by Fisher."

It is RAINING.

Three people waited until the last day to order PHOTO DISKS, so I am trying to get them all finished before I leave. Doesn't take a lot of effort - but LightScribe takes awhile to burn the image to the front of the disk.
