Well, we at least get to PAGE SIX.

In the nick redman of time.

And there's never enough nick redman of time, in this DR's humble opinion.

So let's enjoy it.

Couple of hours ago I turned the TV on to find MON ONCLE playing on TCM.  It was almost over, but looked so damned good, and I didn't know they played any of those.  I'd actually been thinking it's time for a little Tati festival -- all the features, earliest to latest, and might just do that one of these weeks.

Okay, soliloquy's over.

Time to surf a few channels and fall asleep.

We don't get many fireflies here in Texas. But today we got a late-afternoon shower and the faintest glimmer of rainbow. Just beautiful.

Lovely.  Did you take a photo?

It was too faint to register on the camera. I did try.

They are difficult to capture.

We used to catch them when I was little and put them in a jar with holes cut in the lid

I think this time I've finished my paper. So, good night, all.

Back from The Federal - a show featuring someone named Greg Mark (I guess he's been on One Life to Live or one of those soaps) and Sharon McNight.  Miss McNight was her usual feisty and hilarious self and had us all in the palm of her hand.  Not so Mr. Marx, who seemed like a textbook of what never to do in a club act - uncomfortable in his own skin, the horrible nervous habit of trying to adjust the mic stand repeatedly for no reason (I counted at least twenty-three examples of it - the mic stand had been pre-set at his height and didn't need to be adjusted EVER), adjusting the actual mic repeatedly for no reason, and reading lyrics from a paper on a music stand occasionally, and the most neurotic thing singers can do, the endless drinking of water at every opportunity.  Once is fine, twice okay - anything beyond that is just nerves and stupidity.  Miss McNight never ONCE took a drink of water and survived.

I'd had a bacon cheeseburger and zucchini fries from Astroburger for lunch so I had no intention of having anything but an artichoke.  But the minute we sat down, Skip, the fellow who oversees the club (and a great guy) brought Adryan Russ and I the new chicken dish they're adding to what is going to be a very limited menu for our shows - that will help them get the food out in a timely fashion - so, I had the chicken breast - it wasn't huge but I had to eat it and it was too much damn food for the day.  But boy was it great.  So, when I got home, despite my thinking there would be no jog today, I did a three-mile jog and feel better for having done so.

Query from an actress who's playing Kate in Kiss Me, Kate - re I Hate Men - there's a lyric she's not figuring out and I can't really figure it out either - but maybe one of you can - it's the Cain and Abel Betty Grable reference below:

"I hate 'em all, from modern man way back to Father Adam
He sired Cain and Abel thought the Lord above forbade 'em,
I'd hate both Cain and Abel e'en though Betty Grable had 'em.
I hate men."

I've also wondered about those lyrics.
Cockney slang for table is "Cain and Abel", and they also say "Betty Grable" as slang for table.
Must be something to that.

Happy that the recording session was so happy.
Looking forward to photos and videos, not to mention the album.

Love fireflies.  Growing up in Ohio, we had them every year and took them for granted.  Don't remember whether we saw them in Florida.  Then I didn't see them for many years, in California and even here.  But oddly, I've been once again seeing them like crazy this summer.  I have no idea why I wasn't noticing them all the previous years right here.

I can vaguely recall seeing fireflies once...maybe, but I can't remember where I might've seen them.  When we lived in Texas, I was probably 3 years old.  I barely have any memories of when we lived there, but maybe the fireflies were from that time.

I don't know, but I've always assumed that it's an insult about Betty Grable's age. ::) Just a thought.
