My sister went to see Kristin Chenoweth tonight. She is the host of one of the galas at the Just For Laughs festival. There are some really good hosts this year. Joan Rivers and Kathy Griffin are also hosting Galas.

It is set during the Jazz Age in Paris. It is while Hemingway is writing The Sun Also Rises.

Hmmm, she picked the wrong book ;)

This Side of Paradise is wonderful. It's not a wrong book.

DR's George & TCB I hope you will share the photo I just put on FB that goes with the following story:
"Army First Lieutenant Brandon Harker arrived home from a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan to find his two-year-old yellow labrador retriever was either given away or sold while he was gone."

Actually Jane, the Facebook link leads to the story to a news website, here in Washington:

and here's Brandon with his dog:

I missed the pic of him with his dog-thanks.  I hope so.  I think all vets should check new pets to their practice for a microchip.  At least there is one and hopefully someone will see the dog on FB and contact him.

Overall, I've kind of ignored latter day Coppola.

I do like certain aspects of "Bram Stoker's Dracula".

Latter day Coppola?  Is that the Mormons?

I love "the shadows" in BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA

I'm so annoyed with myself right now it's not even funny.  An AT&T sales rep came to the door - they're done installing their fibre optic stuff in the nabe and are pitching UVerse to everyone.  As you know I've been very unhappy with Time Warner and have threatened several times to go this other route, so I listened and since they come and install for free and give you a test period to see how much better their service is, I said okay.  And then came the stupid part.  He said they just needed my social or driver's license number to do a soft credit check - I'm normally not so stupid but he was very good - I'd already given him my phone numbers, he had the address, and I'd given him my name for the appointment set-up.  He did give me his cell, which I haven't tried yet but will tomorrow.  And then, stupidly, I gave him my license number and date of birth - I'm usually not this damn STUPID.  So, I went online and began reading about AT&T which I searched with "scam" and "getting credit information."  And while I did find similar concerns on a few boards no one actually said they'd had anything compromised, although I'm not sure they actually had given their info.  Of course AT&T was gone when I called.  So, figuring he was still working the street, I went outside and found him two doors north of me talking to the homeowner there.  I made him give me the order sheet that he'd written my number on (no carbon that I could see), which he did.  I told him I'd check it all out and call him to come back if it was all okay.  Of course, he could have already transmitted my information elsewhere via his cell phone.  I'm now petrified that something no good will come of this.  Obviously they don't know where I bank and don't know my credit cards, but they could create accounts in my name and/or checking accounts in my name.  They don't have my social security number so I'm not sure how any of that would work, and they certainly can't get the social by having my license number.  And my billing address for just about everything isn't the home address, so they don't have that either.  Stupid, stupid, stupid.

He WAS willing to come back and show me on the computer on the official AT&T site that this was all legit, but I said no.

Yikes!

He could be an agent of some kind as opposed to a regular direct employee of AT&T.  We get that very kind of thing around here.  I've had these knocks on the door for Comcast Cable and for AT&T.  When I put them off, saying I'll call the company if/when I want something, they protest that the company won't necessarily be able to offer the deals that they can give me right now.  Well, too bad.  For peace of mind and a certain satisfaction, if nothing else, I think it's great that you went after him and got the paper back.

I learned about Art Ginsburg precisely from that Blu-ray!

I'd never known Art's Deli, myself, so having learned of him and it via JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL (a movie I'd been wanting to watch again, btw, and now I shall), I was susceptible to noticing it when driving through there, and to wanting to go in, when I was out there last, and that's why I made it a point to do so one of those mornings.

I can only hope that he hadn't transmitted any of my info yet, that I got the only copy of it back - he was two doors away and had obviously been there for at least ten minutes - I know he could have transmitted via his phone but who knows?  I still can't actually find anything online about someone's information being compromised, so maybe it's okay.  And I found several posts that they do this soft credit check and its normal.  I would really be worried had I given them the social, but I never do that ever.  And I'm fairly certain that without a social not much can be done to compromise anything to do with me.  Yes I gave date of birth and the license, but you can't get a cc with only that information - unless they create a fake social, but then I can't be held responsible if the social isn't mine.  Never again.  I will simply tell them to go away and not to come back or to leave information.  I'd read that a couple of people had this happen and that their door to door guy didn't even have the AT&T info, but mine did - the full color brochure.  Of course, they can get that at the AT&T store.  But I also have the guy's cell - before I went out there and got my paper back, he was going to be calling me from the cell to set up the appointment, so I could always give that to the cops if necessary.  And I will call AT&T first thing in the morning to see what they have to say.  If they say it's a sub-contracting company that does this stuff, but that they do require a soft credit check and that's normal, then I won't worry but will keep my eye on everything.  Again, no way for him to know anything about Kritzerland or that address or account, as that's not even my social but a tax ID number.  My normal bank account never has more than one hundred bucks in it, so that won't do them any good.  The address on that account IS my home address and that IS under my social, which this guy never got.  All other bills and stuff don't have the home address on them.

Instead of watching THE DRIVER this evening (but boy does it look great), I ketchuped on A PLACE IN THE SUN.

Wow.  I'm one who had never seen it, and what a powerhouse of a film.  I made sure to take note of the score, that I might especially appreciate the CD to come -- tomorrow if I'm lucky, certainly by Monday since others have theirs now.

This is the DVD.  I'm going to watch the accompanying documentaries on George Stevens in just a bit, and I'll watch the film again soon whilst listening to Jr.'s commentary.

One reason in particular that I enjoyed Art's is that the look and feel of it immediately took me back to those wonderful delis, my first ever, in the Cleveland suburbs in the late 1960s, early 1970s -- which I still find many other people fondly remembering as well.  (The Cleveland suburbs had some great Jews, man.)

 :)

And if I'm remembering correctly, were not those very delis the subject of my very first post on HHW??  I believe they were.
