I am home from the ER of St Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital at 113th and Amsterdam. The doctor said what I suspected: sciatica, of some sort., plus my hamstring muscles need a week of solid stretching and exercise.
Those of you around long enough may remember that I had this o something similar in 2004, at the same time as the dreadful perianal abscess that required two surgeries, and again in 2008; it waited five years this time. Both times I was on crutches for about four weeks. I suspect it's a case of sitting incorrectly and twisting into contortions while examining notes, cutting and pasting, and hunching over large sheets of manuscript. So, I cannot stand upright at the moment, and I am only comfortable walking like Richard III with my cane. I'd prefer this happen now than in Dublin, and I am armed with prescriptions for Tylenol with codeine and a muscle relaxant. Before I left, they gave me a Percodin (I think) and I am going to bed as soon as I hear from my doctor and talk to my brother Randy.
