I think we're going to do it. The excitement has been building over the course of the day. That and the thought of eating barbecue, barbecue, barbecue.

DR John G,

I agree with all of your choices.  All great movies.  I don't know though, if I have seen The Maltese Falcoln all the way thru.

I watched Rebecca last night for at least the 5th time.  I still love it!

Kate, The Maltese Falcon (from 1941 with Humphrey Bogart and Peter Lorre) is one of my dad's absolute, all-time favorite movies of all time! ;D

That's a coincidence - I've just been watching it, again. What a great film!

I am home and in serious trouble: I twisted my back and now I've got a pinched nerve or something that is inhibiting my walking and standing. I can hardly move and the pain is dreadful.

Kate, I did take six months of piano - you can read all about that part of my life in Kritzer Time, the third book in the Kritzer series - I'd suggest starting with the first, Benjamin Kritzer.

Had a Cobb salad, picked up no packages (although one will arrive later from - Ontrac, naturally).  Will jog in a little while.

Vibes it's gone quickly. You don't think that and a plane trip.

Before I purchase a book I have learned to take a quick look to see if my library has it.  Very frustrating is to find a book I just read on the new book list.

When I purchase eBooks I tend to chose one from my lowest priced books on my wish list.  Example, Lisa Gardner's new book that will be out in January is $14 something.  I'll wait until it has been out awhile & the price comes down.

There must be a way that you can talk to the person who is in charge of ebooks at your library so that you can find out which books will be coming in.  Is there no way that you can read any hardcover books vs buying an expensive ebook?

I can only email my problems vs talking to a person.  While they are quick to respond, and they did send directions to check for books and confirmed I was doing it correctly.  I am convinced it doesn't work.  I've given up asking.  There isn't an exact "request" link on my library site which would be nice to have.  Oh, eBooks are through the statewide library, not my local one.

Since reading on my Nook my should and neck don't hurt nearly as much as they used to.  I don't really want to return to reading hardcover books, even worse are those little paperbacks.

Finally, the voice of reason taketh over!...    :)

Honestly, I was wondering about that.  As far as I'm concerned, and I've had but a sampling of it, Texas barbecue is some of the finest eating on the planet.

Wednesday morning greetings!  After putting out a couple of AAUW fires, I'm going to meet Rob at the new apartment.  He will use my car to transport some stuff from the old place while I work on the kitchen in the new place.  My daughter-in-law must trust me - or she's put up a lot of Post-It notes!

DR Elmore, I think DR JRand kind of looks like William Windom when he played a James Thurber type in a TV series.  Can't remember the name of the series...

You are right, he does resemble Windom in this photo.

I just got an email from our publisher, who is asking my co-author and me to do a new book, "Barbecue Lovers' Guide to Texas." It would take a lot of research and often overnight to places hours and hours away. Don't know what to think yet. And, of course, they want the manuscript quickly.

Nice to be asked whatever you decide.

From Charles Pogue:
Quote
Jane, one of my problems with the movie, they took a lot of its darker hues out of it, so they could sell bendy Dragonheart toys (which they didn't).  While I thought it a film families could safely go to; I never intended it to be a kiddie film.  I also believe that kids can handle darker tones in material; read faery tales sometime.  Very dark a lot of them.

Very true regarding reading vs watching.  I was never frightened by Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs until I saw the Disney version and the witch scared the heck out of me.  I'm sure it was when I first sensed evil without understanding it.

I am glad I saw the movie, which I did enjoy even if it should have been as good as the book.  I'm sorry they let you down when filming it.

But I won't.  Just put in for my second refund, since it's obvious that the two overdue packages are not showing up anytime soon.

DR MBarnum the air quality in Medford has gone from "sensitive only" to "unhealthy" which was the same for Ashland until we improved to moderate this afternoon.

Grants Pass near the fires went from "unhealthy", skipping very unhealthy, to "hazardous.

I'm rather surprised our air quality rating has improved.  This morning it was terrible and I put on my car lights for other cars to see me when I drove to meet up with my hiking group.

It was wonderful.  We went up to Mt. Ashland & hiked out of the smoke.

Almost time to watch a motion picture - haven't completely had a ME day, but not bad.  And I do feel a bit more like myself having gotten nine good hours of sleep.

Re libraries: I stopped using the library many years ago. On two occasions they notified me that I had overdue books that I know I returned. I found the exact books on their shelves (their numbers matched). On another occasion, they notified me that a book about children and art was overdue. I never ever checked out a book on that topic.  I simply don't trust their system, and I certainly do not want my credit to get a ding from their sloppy record-keeping.

Sorry, Ginny.

Wow, I have never had a problem with the regular library, and only this recent problem with the e-Book library.  This book still showing has got to be due to a glitch.  It is possible I'm doing something wrong that I can't find books but no one has been able to explain to me what it is.

Last night we had a light show of dry lightening.  Fortunately no new fires were started but it didn't help put any out either.
