There -- not that we're on Page Two finally, that should give us some lazy-Sunday-get-off-our-behinds momentum. (Or not.)

Jose the Heath Bar cake sounds yummy.  I could go for some now.

Ann at least your sister is off the hook as far as the law is concerned.  In the meantime does she have other transportation?

Panni, I can just picture the dog slamming the door shut.  That is a great trick. ;D

Bruce enjoy your day off and don’t miss work too much.

Let the girl post, you tough taskmaster.  She's been gone from here most of the summer and we all miss the baggage so get off her back because she brightens up the joint.  If you can't get off her back get off her side at least.

I woke up at seven so nauseous it was blecchy.  I don't succumb to nausea if I can help it, so I just stayed in bed, zoned out, and fell back asleep.

Morning sickness?

der Brucer is merely looking out for my future.  If he doesn't tell me to study chemistry, then I won't study it, I will fail the test, I won't graduate high school, I won't go to college, I won't get a job, and I'll become a homeless bum.  And we don't want that!

I hope that you are all sending good vibes to poor DR Noel, who is slaving away at a cabaret rehearsal as I write this!  I'm singing "I'm Breaking Down" in his tuesday cabaret, and he is truly the driving force keeping these shows together.   :)

A very happy birthday to my most dear der Brucer!

IS THERE ANYONE ELSE WHO CAN MAKE TAPES OF TIGER CRUISE?

I’m having trouble getting my VCR to record.  Keith tried for over an hour this morning.  I have one more option-call a friend to transfer it for me from his TIVO.

Jennifer and Tomovoz, don’t give up on me yet, but I hoping for a backup here.

Can someone do better than a tape & make good DVD’s?

Good Morning!

Well, I slept in too... Guess my body - and my "self" needed it.

I actually wasn't feeling too well stomach-wise either when I got up this morning - nor when I went to bed last night either.  I guess it was the "revenge" of the Heath Bar Thingy I had.  It truly was VERY rich - about three layers of fudgey cake, layered with chocolate fudge/pastry cream, covered in chocolate ganache, and then with big pieces of Heath Bars embedded in the ganache coating.  *burp*  That and the coffee I had with it too - I haven't had straight coffee in a while, and I forgot that sometimes the acid in the coffee doesn't sit too well with me.  Ah, well.. Live and learn.  At least I packed my Pepcid AC in my dop kit.  And at least the "Thingy" was delicious.  (Sheesh!  TCB?  Calling DR TCB?) ;)

I can copy the tape that I made (I taped it in SP mode) but I can't make a DVD.

Darling Jenny - you sound like you're singing "I'm Breaking Down" right now.  Of course we want you to study chemistry ("Chemistry?"  "Yeah, chemistry" - name that show) but we also don't want you to not post because you will most certainly become a homeless bum if you refrain from posting.

("Chemistry?"  "Yeah, chemistry" - name that show)

"Guys And Dolls".

To answer Jane's question, I've been studying at the Circle In The Square School of Theatre this summer, which has been incredibly exciting and intense.

I will try to post more often, BK, because I truly do not want to become a homelss bum.

I can't copy, but I recorded one in SLP which I'd be glad to send to someone who can.

Happy Day to DerBrucer. Hope it's as pleasant as my anniversary celebration.

I'm listening to a Smithsonian Songwriter Series featuring Irving Berlin. What a treat.

Welcome back, Pirate Jenny! Good vibes on the (nauseating) chemistry. If you hate it as much as I did at your age, then you need CHARCOAL PILLS.

I'm off to the Triad, to rehearse and tech from 12-6 (at least I hope we stop at 6); then the show starts at 7.  I play 26 numbers and we have to clear out because there's a show coming in at 9

My question is: does Jose get worked like this, from 12-8:30 with just a dinner break at 6?  Just wondering.  I wouldn't blame anybody if he did.

The answer is: Yes... And No.

For the first two weeks of rehearsal for What If?, even though we were only rehearsing in the evenings, I was spending a lot of my "off time" with headphones on listening to various songs so that I could transcribe them.  And then on the first few days off, I was starting to chart them on my computer.

As BK will attest to - and even I will readily admit - my "ear" is not the best.  It's gotten lazy since I graduated from college - which included three years of some pretty intensive music theory and ear training.  I just haven't had to use it.  I play mainly shows/tours now, so the music is provided for me; and auditions - again, the music is provided for me.  I've never been one to sit down at the piano and just start playing for myself or for others.  I'm mainly a sight-reader.  *I also think part of my "resistance" to playing-by-ear has/had to do with my resistance for playing when company would come over when I was younger - I just hated being put on the spot like that by my mother - but I think that's typical for any 10-11-year old boy being asked by his parents to "show off" for their neighbors and relatives.

*There's probably the basis for some in-depth psychological study in that previous statement... But I digress...

So, there were a few days early on, where I would be listening and transcribing for a couple of hours at a time.  And then there were songs that needed to be transposed, rearranged, restructured...  Etc. etc., etc...

However, all that work is par for the course for a musical director, so...  Comes with the territory.

And I do have to thank BK for his very good "ear" which has helped me to fine tune and correct some of my transcriptions.

But even for a standard show, there are usually many days where I work 8, 10, 12.... even 14 or 16 hours in one day.  (But I do take breaks - either my own, or union "enforced".)  Heck, there was one day during Children of Eden rehearsals where I had orchestra rehearsal from 10-4, then I programmed the keyboard from 5-Midnight.  And there was even an all-nighter during tech week to finish up the keyboard programming.  The work just had to be done.
