Sorry to hear about Eydie Gorme--one of my favorite singers.  I love this clip from the Tonight Show:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNpb8WsF6bc

And how many times did you fly around the world to hear Eydie sing?

Well, I did take a bus from Buffalo to Toronto in approximately 1977 to see Steve and Eydie.  And I saw them at Carnegie Hall many years ago.  That's about it!

You were just getting warmed up.

Yes! I had no idea that I'd ever see Barbra live!

Just talked to my friend in England on Face Time.  What a great thing!  And it's free (well, after you pay for your internet connection)!

Elmore, wave when you fly over Arizona!

My Steve and Eydie story: One dark and stormy evening, DR Kerry called and asked if I was busy and could I get downtown right away (in a pouring rainstorm). He had bought two tickets for Steve and Eydie as a gift for his aunt. She refused to go out in the storm. I was out of the house in seconds! Awesome seats, too -- just a couple rows from the stage.

I love it, Laura. I hope Elmore's plane to Dublin doesn't make by way of Arizona!  ;D

That is faster than I could have gotten out of the house, well done.  That was very kind of DR Kerry and his aunt.

I had a little more warning than that the night my mother was sick & I had the pleasure of going with my father to Heifetz's last performance before he retired.  I was able to eat and change my clothes while my father drove from WLA to the valley to pick me up.

Two types of vegetarian lasagna in the oven. Both use thin strips of zucchini in place of the pasta I can't eat. One has homemade pesto, mushrooms, onions and garlic with plenty of Parmesan on top. The other has tomato sauce, onions and red bell pepper with Parmesan. They smell good. Hope they taste as good.

DR John G, both lasagna varieties sound yummy.  I've always wanted to try making something like that.

Make it up as you go along. It's easier that way.

Oh, and add bacon when necessary.

Not only were there no copies of The Cuckoo's Calling at the fair, most dealers had no clew as to what had happened with the book.  Dealers are funny about new books going rare like that - they don't trust it, as several frenzies have had their bubbles burst eventually, but in the end if there really were only 1500 copies then this thing is not going to go down.  That said, the publisher itself had never owned up to how many copies were printed.  The "1500" is pure speculation by dealers trying to sell and they take that number from the publisher's statement about how many copies had been sold.  Copies sold, of course, has nothing to do with copies printed.  I suspect if it sold under 1500, which it did, that the print run would be closer to 5000 - but maybe it was less than that.  No one knows.  Except the publisher.  And the publisher has not been forthcoming.

They are on sale here at Shopko but I think it's a second printing

It's the last day of my vacation.  Very glad I got so much done outside.  I can always work in the house so I'm ok that I didn't get the inside jobs done.

Print runs for new authors, if the publisher thinks it won't be a runaway best seller, would probably be in the 2500 range these days.

The helper was very good in her show - she stepped into the lead role six days before opening.  The show itself is an utter waste or time, a complete borefest called Tanglin' Hearts, a country western As You Like It.  Bad songs, horrible script.

Since DR elmore3003 is otherwise indisposed, I'll say it:  Oy!      :)
