BAGUETTES AND BAGUETTES

Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of baguettes and also baguettes, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently eating a baguette whilst admiring a diamond baguette.

I went to sleep early, guess I missed the ball in Times Square dropping at midnight to herald in the new year.  :)

L'Shanah Tovah to all!       :)

I don't get to blow the Shofar, but will have heard it done many many times before the day is over.

In Julia Child's autobiography, there was much discourse on baguettes and how she was able to bring French bread to an American home cook who'd wanted to try to make one. The process involved placing a pan of water in the over and sticking a hot brick in it. Very scrappy. Very Julia. I could just see her experimenting with it. The first published version also involved an asbestos tile, but that was before we knew the dangers of asbestos.

My boss got a call from his wife last night before leaving work. She was in tears. There was a fox in their chimney and she didn't know what to do.

Well, the fox turned out to be a raccoon and there's like a whole family of them living in there. And no one was available to take care of it.

I don't think his laughter or his threat not to come home until she dealt with it has won him any points.

On facebook, I see they pushed a chair in front of the fireplace and are leaving it until Animal Control drops by some time today to take care of it and offer then a $600 bill.

Although it's 115 outside, I'd have built a fire.

Off to another really hot day.

On days like this-100 degrees, you would think there would be less traffic on the freeways, but NO.

It is actually taking longer to get to work, a lot longer.

When I was a kid, I loved the cartoon series entitled The Wacky Races.  Goofy cars driven by goofy characters, with silent-movie pratfalls and stereotypes galore.  Penelope Pitstop and Dick Dastardly and Muttley.  For me, there was no greater pinnacle of greatness.  But what did I know?  I was a young'un at the time.

Fast forward a few decades and I hear the announcement that there would be a deeveedee boxed set of The Wacky Races.  I drooled.  I couldn't wait to buy my very own copy of every single episode of my beloved childhood favorite.  And then, on one of the basic cable stations, they announced a Wacky Races marathon.

It was awful.  Bad animation.  Awful comic timing.  Annoying laugh track.  Insipid, derivative stories.  It was painful, painful, painful to behold.  But it saved me thirty or forty bucks.   Needless to say, I passed on adding The Wacky Races to my deeveedee collection.

My all-time favorite cartoon used to be Disney's Pinocchio.  But that has been recently dethroned by Spirited Away, a movie I've seen at least every few months since it came out, with increasing delight each and every time.  Everything about Spirited Away is something I love.  It's not only my favorite cartoon feature, it's one of my favorite movies, period.

There's also a science fiction anime called Paprika with takes my breath away.  Wonderful, very adult animation, and a really neat piece of sci-fi on top of it all.

I don't care all that much for animation or Pixar or whatever....

As a child I watched a lot of the Merrie Melodies on television....with Bugs and Daffy...  And there was an afternoon show that featured the Fleischer Popeye cartoons....with a Betty Boop thrown in now and then....

Good morning, all!  Welcome back, Ron!

The pain meds worked great and I slept long and well, dreaming bout Annalene recording "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes."

Today, I am staying off my left leg as much as possible, so I will be reading and watching tv, having a sick day. I've got no jobs to worry about at the moment and money in the bank, so I can afford to spend the next week in bed, if I so wish, and I've got to let any muscles, tendons, whatever I might have injured yesterday heal.

I'll pop in later.

I think the Warner cartoons hold up the best.  I love Daffy Duck, particularly his rivalry with Bugs Bunny.  Also the Road Runner.

Well, got a call almost as I hit work that someone had hijacked my debit card. A $1,200+ purchase had been made at a Best Buy and more charges were being attempted this morning. Ugh.

The earliest cartoon character that I remember is Jerry the Mouse dancing with Gene Kelly in ANCHORS AWEIGH.  My mother took me to see that when it played in theaters.

I woke up feeling like the proverbial truck hit me.  It was just one of those nights when the bed attacks, and the morning backaches are a pain in the... well... back, I guess.  Not to equate this at all with what DR Elmore is dealing with!  Mine is usually remedied by spending an hour in the La-Z-Boy recliner which supports the back beautifully, providing true comfort.  And that's what I just did.  The cure, baby.  The cure.  Of course, I'm sure I need a new mattress as well.  I won't even post how old this one is.
