My question for ASK BK Day:

Have you seen any promos for the new TV season and does anything look interesting to you?

Also, what is your favorite CLASSIC game show?

I recorded LUCKY 7, and it seems like I had seen some previews that looked interesting, but I have forgotten what they were.

Favorite classic game shows: WHAT'S ,MY LINE, THE NAME'S THE SAME, TO TELL THE TRUTH, HOLLYWOOD SQUARES.

I did notice this morning that my DVR recorded the new season openers for CHICAGO FIRE and some other show...hmmm...what was it. I want to say MODERN FAMILY, but I thought that was on later in the week. Maybe not.

I don't know if any DRs have been paying any attention to the horrible terrorist attack at the Westgate Mall in Nairobi this week, but this one picture of a lone little girl fleeing the shooting is an image I can't seem to shake. One wonders where her family is, How frightening for her and all of other kids in the mall (there was a popular kids cooking contest going on at the time of the attack.)

Awww.  I thought the children were told they could leave.  I read a story of a mother & her two children who left.  The 4 year old boy told one of the gunman he was a badman and the gunman apologized.

No. Unfortunately there are a number of children who died, particularly where the annual cooking contest was being held, which is also where the attack began. The host of the cooking contest was a very popular television host. She unfortunately died, as did her husband.

The two children that were allowed to leave was just a single incident and mainly because the mom told the shooter what he wanted to hear.

There hasn't been much detailed reporting in the US media for some reason. But I have been reading a lot online from various sources, particularly media in India as a lot of the victims were Indian or of Indian origin. Evidently there are a lot of India expatriats living in Nairobi.

I read a pregnant American woman died and that there were more Americans in there. :(

She was the popular host I mentioned. She herself was not American but Indian, however her husband worked for a US govt. agency or something like that, so there was a connection. There was another pregnant woman mentioned in stories who was Dutch and her partner was from New Zealand, if I recall. This woman worked with a charity that the Clinton's are involved with.

I don't believe that there have been any American's listed among the dead, thus far.

It was the Clinton staffer I read about that was pregnant.  So this makes two pregnant women killed :(

From DR George:
Quote
Well this is pretty cool...today, I went to a local burger joint for lunch and in a rare move, I paid with cash.  I got the burger for free because they have points cards and I had enough for a free burger.  I paid for the drink and tater-tots.  Anyway, I got some change, a couple of dollars and 18˘ and I just looked at the coins.  One is a 1919 wheat-back cent!  Pretty cool, huh?

Super  8) !!  :)

What are you going to do with it?

Years ago, when my sister and I were both in high school in the early 1980s, she went to Disneyland and brought me back a Big Al bank.  I still have it and it's stuffed with old and unusual coins and money from other countries.  I haven't opened it in years.  Fortunately, there is a rubber stopper on the bottom, so I don't have to break it to get anything out.  Here's a picture that I found on the interwebs:

What a great place to keep your special coins.

I don't even turn on regular TV so haven't seen anything.  Favorite classic game show - I always loved What's My Line? and To Tell the Truth (Bill Cullen?) - and I liked Treasure Hunt with Jan Murray.

BK -- I don't know if you ever check youtube, but there are lots of clips from What's My Line?  I especially like the mystery guest clips.   Here's a very funny Irene Dunne:

Thank you.  That was fun.  Since we just watched "Anna and the King of Siam" I sent the clip to Keith.

Well, I'm off to have dinner with my friend Margo at a local pizza joint called Apollo's.  I haven't been there in a couple of years, but my sister and niece really like it.  Not that I want them, but they have vegan options. :)

Be back later!

Just came back from The Wizard of Oz in 3D.

It was magnificent to see it on a huge screen again in a beautifully restored print. The 3D helped to bring out the amazing production design in the movie. The 3D brought out so much that it was a feast for the eyes.

The makeup design was also well done and if there was an Oscar that year for makeup, Jack Dwan would have won. The costumes were also a feast for the eyes. It seemed that practically every Munchkin and Emerald City citizen had a costume of their own design.

I also notice a couple of other things that I never noticed before. The floating Wizard had upper and lower fangs. The other thing occurred just after the three heroes fought the Witch's guards and put on their clothes: Toto had a tassel from one of the guard's costumes in his mouth.

The rated the film PG after almost 75 years of theater and television they rated it PG for "Scary Images".

Also watching the film on the big screen you can see where they clipped out a lot of the WItch's dialogue.

Of course there is the continuity gaffs. Like what happens to the flowers and the lollypop that Dorothy had before the Witch appeared?

The Wizard's guard' mustache is pointing up and then pointing down. (They clipped out a short piece of business that explained it)

The witch sending a little insect up ahead to take the fight out of them. This was the Jitterbug which was a big song and dance number that was cut out.

The Witch remover disappear from one shot to another. (Another piece of business also clipped out)

I noticed for the first time that just before the Witch flies off to the Emerald CIty she has a hat in her hand and throws it away. If you read the original book (like I have many times) this is the had she wears and says an incantation to summon the Winged Monkeys,

And whatever you say about the Wicked Witch of the West she is a Lady. Do you notice she rides her broom "side saddle" instead of a striding it.

It was great to see this movie again on such a giant screen (IMAX) great sound and 3D imaging that compliments the film.

I believe tomorrow is the last time it was playing, but it was in the top ten maybe they'll extend the engagement. But if not I suggest you go see this magnificent film. I don't think I'll ever be able to enjoy it that much on TV as so much of the visuals are lost.

I have such a craving for donuts right now, but I just did a little informal donut calorie count and I'm afraid not.

Need some vibes for a friend who has been diagnosed with severly low endorphin levels. She's been put on Zoloft, but it takes two weeks to work. In the meantime, my friend is enduring a living hell and could use some any amount of support.
Thanks in advance.

Larry, glad to hear the bed has arrived. You don't need a step stool to get into to it, do you?

So much for the bed.  I want to hear all about the delivery man!!

I recently bought the Blu-ray "Star Trek Into Darkness."  It comes with a digital download, either the Ultraviolet stream (in the cloud!), or the iTunes digital download.  I'm downloading it from iTunes.

Just had to share. :)

The download option also includes iTunes extras.  The hi-def film download is 4.44 GB.  The bonus extras is another 5.63 GB!  Wow!  That's a lot of extra stuff!
