I've been listening to the new recording of ONE TOUCH OF VENUS.  I like the leading lady, Judy Kay, and Lauren Worsham (whose accent may be a bit much), but I can't say I'm crazy about Miss Clark and I think Brent is miscast. He's so good on BRIGADOON, but I think his voice is too dark and not naive enough for the innocent barber; Leroy Reams in the 1986 concert and Kenny Baker are better.

BK --

These exciting current and upcoming activities no doubt knock out the possibility of any East Coast BK appearances for a while.  Do you have any idea when you might be getting back to NY or DC next?

I was supposed to come to NY this week and to DC in November, but the show will indeed make those trips impossible.

Told them I'll play the show.  I'll attend a rehearsal Tuesday and pick up the score.  What the hell.  I'm in the mood.

Is Thanksgiving celebrated this weekend or tomorrow?  I keep seeing a mix of the dates so figured I would send good wishes today.

Got my notice from Amazon that Druxy's book has shipped.   Looking forward to it.

I bought both of Druxy's books direct from his publisher and they arrived a few days ago.  I'm reading something on my Kindle right now, but as soon as I'm finished with that, I'll start on his first autobiography. :)

At the end of a wonderful visit with pumpkin cookies and lots of talk and laughter. Larry looks good and looks like he has lost 16 pounds!

I like the new recording (I don't love it, though).  Here is a link to one of the new songs that ALW wrote for the production.  I actually like this song, but others here have said that they don't.  You decide. :)

I just popped in.  I only discovered yesterday that I can get on-line while I'm here at the theater!  It's pre-show time, so I'm okay to ketchup, which I now have.  We start our show in about 15 minutes, so I'll sign off now.

Have a good day, all!

Back from a very productive meeting with Kay Cole.  Had eggs benedict, but mostly yammered and out of the yammering came some great ideas, so I'm on my way now.  There is one issue that is bugging both Kay and myself but I don't know that there's any way to win it, although we're hoping we can.  The theater has been clear from the beginning that they wanted company members in the show and to that end three of the five that are firm are.  But there's another person who'd come in from NY to do it - and I really don't like the idea of six people - it throws the balance off and it's not what I will ultimately try to license or do elsewhere, so to try to shoehorn this sixth person into the show seems very wrong to me and I've just left a very strong message about it.  Also, after having a long telephonic conversation with the person, I just don't feel she will be the kind of team player necessary - there will be several ensemble numbers with the full cast, with complicated harmonies and everyone has to want to do that - the others, of course, do, but I'm not sure this person will be thrilled doing that aspect of the show.  As of yesterday, it still wasn't firm and I'm hoping and praying that after my message today that this issue will just go away and we can proceed as Kay and I think we should.  If not, we'll make it work, but I just hope we don't have to do all that work that will ultimately be discarded after this run.  We shall see.

I love Kay Cole.

Perhaps if the sixth person decides during rehearsals the work isn't for them, they'll depart.

John Yap of TER is getting pissy and picking fights today. All because I don't like everything about the new recording of ONE TOUCH OF VENUS.

Kay and I are hoping as hard as we can that the person just doesn't come in the first place.  I'd say it's 50/50 right now, but the person would have to be here next Monday, so there's that.

John Yap of TER is getting pissy and picking fights today. All because I don't like everything about the new recording of ONE TOUCH OF VENUS.

John Yap has lost his marbles.  I think he said on Facebook (it was removed because of the responses - he's lucky I didn't respond) that One Touch of Venus (or one of his other many unreleased albums) cost $700,000 and would have to sell 500,000 copies to break even.  That is an insane person talking.  No cast album in history has cost anywhere near that figure even with some of the hefty advances companies used to pay in the Golden Age.  The average cast album in 2013 costs under $300,000 and even One Touch of Venus would not fall into that category because there would have been no reuse on the orchestrations (a major part of any cast album budget) or copyist expenses.  And he has to sell 500,000 to break even?  Is he mad?  Presuming he's getting back as low as seven dollars a CD, those with even a perfunctory bit of math knowledge can figure out that would be a net of 3.5 MILLION dollars!  Someone please point this out to him and shut him up.  I'm sure the One Touch of Venus recording is up to his usual standards, which means it won't be to my liking, but I do know others love his stuff so what do I know?

The show was in Toronto. And ALW did one of those find Dorothy shows in Canada. They started with a lot of girls and then the girl who is playing Dorothy was the winner.

Sunday afternoon greetings!  There was a vestry meeting after church today, so we're home a little later than usual.  It's another gorgeous fall day here in SW Ohio.

Kritzerland show order is done, so I'll start writing the commentary a little later this afternoon.  For now, a little movie break, then a jog.
