Because it looked so damned good yesterday in the store bakery section, an area I usually avoid these days.  That's why because.  Or because why.

From yesterday's thread:
Quote
Welcome, DR upperco. As you might be able to tell from my quote below, I'm a Porter fanatic, too. (And a gin fan.) What's your favorite Porter tune?

Of course, I like all the standards ("Night And Day," "You're The Top," "Begin The Beguine," "It's De-Lovely," "So In Love," etc.). I'm also very partial to "It's All Right With Me" from CAN-CAN (1953).

Now when it comes to neglected songs (like "Say It With Gin") that I think should be better known, I have a handful: "Where Have You Been?" from THE NEW YORKERS (1930), "Hey, Babe, Hey" from BORN TO DANCE (1936), "From Alpha To Omega" from YOU NEVER KNOW (1938), "The Leader Of A Big Time Band" from SOMETHING FOR THE BOYS (1943), "Hasta Luego" from SOMETHING TO SHOUT ABOUT (1943), "They Couldn't Compare To You" from OUT OF THIS WORLD (1950), and "I Am In Love" from CAN-CAN (1953), are but a few.

Collectively, however, I think FIFTY MILLION FRENCHMEN (1929), NYMPH ERRANT (1933), JUBILEE (1935), and LET'S FACE IT (1941) house some of the best little-known Porter tunes.

How about you?

Good morning, all! Another restless night, but I am bathed, dressed, on my first cup of coffee before physical therapy. I would have liked another hour's sleep, but that's not to be.

DRcillaliz, how awful! I hope this morning your aches from the accident are over.  Did you get all the insurance info from the source of the collision?  How did rehearsal go?

1986, after I turned in all of the JUBILEE scores and orchestra parts to the Porter Trust office, Bob Montgomery, the Trustee, suggested we consider NYMPH ERRANT, which I would have loved to restore. Florence Leeds, who was then secretary to the Trust and a wonderful lady, kept postponing, with "someday we'll get a request for it and recommend you." A couple of years later, Don Pippin requested it, spoke to me on the phone about it, and then went to London and had the songs scored by Jim Tyler to his instructions. I like the score, but the original script is a trudge to get through.

DR Ginny, I had a most unusual dream about a Miami University production of The Beggar's Opera. We did it better.

Omelets? Western, mushroom, or cheese and ham.

DR Cillaliz, I hope that you will be okay. And hopefully the middle car driver will be fine too.

Did the person who hit you guys give some reason as to why they would hit a bunch of cars that are stopped?  I can't believe that someone could be so stupid.

I've read that The Criterion Collection has restored the original road show edition of IT'S A MAD (4) WORLD and will be releasing it on DVD in January.

Remember I posted several weeks ago about the cat who had wandered away from Mary Linda's parents' house?  Well, here is ML's mother's Facebook status from this morning:

"CHESTER IS HOME!!!!! He showed up while I was getting dressed for work this morning on the deck outside our bedroom. He looks fine.... not even like a cat that has been living in the wild for 5 weeks!! He must have found a food source somewhere.... if only they could talk."

Amazing...

DR Elmore, shortly after we did THE FANTASTICKS, I saw Miami's production in the Experimental Theatre and felt the same way.

Good morning, all.

Good day for an omelet.

My favorite is Mom's, which is really more of a frittata, but it's ham and cheese with celery tops baked in the eggs.

But I never say no to a good lobser omelet.

TOD - One of the best omelets I've ever had was the Garden Omelet at Sarabeth's on Central Park South before the HHW walk with DR Jose through Central Park and the Upper East Side.  Broccoli, corn, carrots, and Cheddar cheese - YUM!

I do make omelets, often on meatless Fridays during Lent.

Jubilee score is at the top of the list. I love the songs for the movie You'll Never Get Rich, except for the way most of them are used in the film. Leave It to Me! is a great score and I also really enjoy BK's recording of You'll Never Know.

I have a soft spot for all of Something for the Boys, especially Leader of a Big-Time Band. As a project for class last summer, I rewrote the libretto for that show, which was a great exercise.

Favorite song: Begin the Beguine. Especially Ella Fitzgerald's recording. She lets the lyrics speak for themselves and doesn't oversell it.

TOD

I think my biggest omelet eating years were my L.A. ones, and oddly enough, the first one I remember upon moving to Hollywood in the summer of '72 was a banana omelet at Coffee Dan's.  Don't know what else was in it.  (Maybe raisins?)  Went back a few times for that one.

Otherwise, I usually just went for the heartier ones along the lines of chili and cheese, Mexican with chorizo (ate those a lot for weekend breakfasts at a great little diner called CJ's Pantry in Redondo Beach), western omelets, that kind of thing.

For a while, I was making them at home, usually the Mexican variety with diced green chiles, tomato, avocado, onion (loved green onions in omelets), perhaps cilantro, some kind of hot sauce, and always cheese.  I'd load those babies up.  Probably never learned the "correct" way of making omelets, flipping them or whatever, but I got pretty good at getting the ingredients laid out in the egg mixture in a large skillet, and carefully folding the eggs over.

This is making me hungry.
