Well, you've read the notes, the notes kept their wits about them, and now it is time for you to post until the witless cows come home.

Topic of the Day:  I love Costco's chocolate cake with white frosting...it's the best!  I also love Boston Cream Pie (even though it's called a "pie," we all know that it's a cake filled with custardy deliciousness).

Good morning, all.

Awake WAY too early after WAY too little sleep.  Good to be able to pick up the phone whilst in bed and ketchup rather than just toss and turn.

Good morning, all!  Weird dreams. Very weird dreams, especially one about a new translation of THREEPENNY OPERA in a plot to perform it in the subway.

DR MBarnum, I did indeed miss that sidesplitting comment you posted last night. I'm still chuckling over that tiny wit of yours. It is indeed physical therapy at 11 today.

I wish the Moross check(s) would show up; I need to pay off some bills.

TOD: German chocolate, carrot, Central Pastry birthday cake.

I must say I'm enjoying BK's detailed reports of routes taken.  I recognize all the street names but have had to refresh my memory on exactly where they are and where they go.

TOD

Not REAL big on cakes, though I'd probably like any really well made one.  Cake isn't something I normally think about.
However, in general, I always love:

Rich dark moist fudgey chocolate cakes.
Moist carrot cakes or red velvet cakes with a really good cream cheese frosting.

No German chocolate cake for me, thanks.  All of that "stuff" is a distraction.

Old favorite:  the frozen (?) Sara Lee chocolate fudge cake in the rectangular foil pan.  Don't know if that's still around; I guess I never browse those sections at the store.

Enjoyed MERRILY last night, but I'm new to this one so I have nothing to go on but first reactions to the material.  Definitely like the show, and I can appreciate how challenging this must be to put across well.  I'll have to read up on its history and get out my cast album.  Wish to hell I'd gone to Encores.

I was with a very British friend who's a wonderful director and actor in this area.  She loves the show but was driven nuts by the American accents.  After she mentioned that during the intermission, I paid a lot more attention to it through the second act.  Though accents are FAR from being my strong suit, and that's putting it mildly, it was indeed noticeable and kind of funny at times.

Video quality started off all right, but near the end of the first act, I suddenly realized the presumably high-def image was compromised.  Throughout the second act it was just plain terrible -- standard broadcast quality all the way, with all the inherent problems -- lack of detail, color bleeding, "edge" distraction (I don't know all the jargon).  And oddly enough, a number of shots with people getting scalped -- camera too low?  At one point, the camera made a noticeable upward adjustment, so, I dunno...

DR Ginny--I've taken the bus from Newark to Port Authority and have been satisfied, but I didn't know about the train.

I saw Merrily We Roll Along while I was in London. Unfortunately, I was suffering from jet lag and dozed off a few times.  I did enjoy what I saw, though.

I'm in the minority: I really dislike MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG, almost as much as I detest PASSION. I thought the Encores! production made a good case for it, but I think it's a mess and gets productions because the Sondheim Cult has raised it to the pantheon of great musicals since Steve is the god. Oy!

Thanks to all for the MERRILY reports!  Interesting and entertaining.  I LOVE the album produced by someone we know, but I don't care enough about the people to really enjoy the show....so I didn't make an effort to go, although I think it was showing around here someplace.

Such great photos from DR JANE and DR LAURA yesterday!  I like taking hikes without leaving my computer.

I have been looking at the gallery of submissions for the TCM ULTIMATE FAN contest.  There are some very nice entries that are certainly better than mine....there are also some weird ones that are not.  I have already chosen my favorite - which isn't mine.  But then again, I am not a judge.

Many people seem to be auditioning for a job that hasn't been posted yet.

Thursday morning greetings!

TOD: German chocolate, carrot, Central Pastry birthday cake.

Central Pastry birthday cakes are, indeed, lovely.  DR Elmore surprised me with one at our first rehearsal for "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" on my 26th birthday.
