I had an interesting time at the Austin Film Festival yesterday.

I did one of their Roundtable sessions, and sitting next to me at one of those tables was actor Robert Walden (LOU GRANT), who has just moved to Austin.  We will probably have lunch together in the next week or two.

Also, a guy came up to me, asked if I was "Michael Druxman," then told me that, when he was a teenager back in the early 1970s, he would come to my house in Agoura Hills, CA, and watch the 16mm movies I would show almost every night in my living room.  He said that watching movies in my house is what inspired him to go to film school.

Later, he became a psychotherapist, but now he wants to try screenwriting, which is why he was at the Austin Film Festival.

Great story.

I want to watch 16mm movies in DR Druxy's living room.  What time do the showings begin?

Those were the good old days...before VHS, Beta, laser disc and DVD.

TOD

Blu-ray

UNDERGROUND - 1928 silent film directed by Anthony Asquith on the BFI label. I got this mainly to see the rare 1928 location filming of the London Underground and other parts of London. It contains a traditional symphonic score by Neil Brand and one by Chris Watson, which is not music but a sound design - creating suitable sound effects, which I think I preferred over the symphonic score.

THE FURY (Arrow Films) - I always saw this as one of Brian De Palma's lesser efforts but seeing it again after many years, I found it far better than my original opinion. It's held up well over the years.

Today, I will be doing another Roundtable session at 3 pm, but before that, I'm going to be at UT where cinema students will be pitching their screenplay stories at me.

Should I be prepared to duck?

(I just thought I'd throw that last line in before somebody else did.)

I hope everyone posts pictures of their Halloween costumes!

It is Friday, October 25....two months until Christmas...in case you didn't know.

To paraphrase my Grandma:

Have yourself a very early Christmas
Go buy something nice
Spend a lot of money and do not think twice

Here we are in October days
Smart and sober days, we thought
Still we fell for the standard shtick
Not yet sick of Nick, we bought

Some day soon we’ll all be in the poorhouse
If we spend too free
Hang the IOU there on your Christmas tree
Still have yourself a very early Christmas spree

Re: Karyn Kupcinet.

In the 70's & possinly the 80's I used to read Weekly Variety and I remember there was a little ad there every week to her memory.

Also there was an actor named Zach Norman who would have an ad to promote himself and this led to him getting a role in Romancing the stone.

RE: programs in Cast Album LP

I had ones from Molly Brown, Tenderloin and On a Clear Day. Which is interesting because they have a picture and bio of Rae Allen who played Mrs. Hatch. Which is interesting because she was not part of the opening night cast. So either she was let go before the show opened or she was a replacement cast member that made it to the program

My Fair Lady being restricted.

Do they mean Jews and Blacks aren't allowed to do it?  :-)

Which reminds me of a story. Groucho Marx was invited to a restricted club in (I think) Beverly Hills. He was informed that he wasn't allowed to go into the pool because he was jewish. He then asked since his daughter was half jewish could she go into the pool up to her knees?

I'm not sure if I posted this the other day on here or on FB, but:

I was living in a W. Hollywood apartment at Fountain and Sweetzer when Karyn was killed, 1/2 block away from her apartment.  I used to walk by that building all the time.

I just checked the published vocal score; Rae Allen played Mrs Hatch on opening night, Michael.

Interesting because in the ibdb and I believe the Best Plays of... (which I don't have here) an actress named Evelyn Page is credited. Maybe she left rather quickly after the opening and Rae Allen stepped in

I missed Merrily We Roll Along. I thought it might have played in Montreal, but they are not getting it until Nov 7 and I will be back home by then. Maybe they'll do an Encore showing and I will get to see it,

Otherwise I will download and watch it from Digital Theater (?) that also has Into The Woods that was down in a park and had the kid as the narrator. This was the original British version

Yesterday, DR Jane wrote:

Of course, having a smart dog in the house would certainly alleviate much of your concern...and the dog could be trained to go for help, too...especially if you fall into a well.

If you click on replacement info on IBDB, that lists Rae Allen as a replacement.

It's definitely not been a good week. The cough and sore throat persist and because I've been sitting and lying around so much, I've now got backache. I need to be fit to fly to Germany on Monday but there's a big storm brewing for that day so my travel plans that day may get totally scuppered if aircraft get cancelled.

Doug is the approaching storm really so strong that it might cancel or postpone your flight?

TOD

CDs are the same as last week because it's been a crazy one and I'm still at these:  SIMPLY, DEAREST ENEMY, and ...NOW CHANGE.

BLUs are the new Vincent Price Collection and some other Halloween-appropriate goodies from the stack.  Watched THE WOMAN WHO CAME BACK last night but fell dead asleep and need to see the last 20 minutes again.

Last ngiht was the first rehearsal for IAWL.  It is strange to be doing a show at my home theatere, and yet I have only worked with one or two of these people; and never at this theater.
