Some of these FB people, "This is really difficult to watch."  Then don't watch, but then don't complain that they never do musicals on TV.

Happy Friday. all!

Well, I did manage to watch the broadcast eventually, and I also pretty much stayed out of the FB fray. I did comment that, before watching it, I thought it might be fun to have cast Nathan Lane as the Mother Abbess.  :D

And my favorite comment under a friend's post was someone who seriously referred to another R&H show, Oklahoma, and their favorite song - "Siri with a Fringe on Top".  Yep, not surrey, Siri.  Good lord.  :P

TOD

Not much this week (and busy doing Christmas shopping)

DVD - PROVIDENCE. New restored version from France; including a strip of 35mm film!

Love that movie. Elaine Stritch is great.

My writing partner and I got an invite to do a piece for Texas Monthly. Haven't been in that mag before. It's due before the BBQ book but it's short. Hopefully we can do it.

There was a threat earlier today of canceling ZZ Top at the company Christmas party tomorrow night, but the party seems to be happening.

  • A person should celebrate what passes by.

Our snowstorm has been delayed a few hours and the number of inches forcast is less :)

It actually snowed here overnight!  Fortunately, it was a very light dusting that was completely melted off my car by the time I left for work. ;)

The new microwave was damaged, so now we have to wait for a replacement.

I hate it when that happens. :P

If they cancel ZZ Top, perhaps they can get Carrot Top instead.

I didn't see THE SOUND OF MUSIC.  Hell, it took me 15-20 years to see Julie Andrews in it.  I can't say it is must-see TV for me.  But I am amazed by the facebook furor over it.   I've seen things like "how dare she even try to emulate Julie Andrews" or "the film was perfect, this shouldn't have been done."  What a load of pretentious umbrage!  Films are remade; plays are re-staged all the time.  If someone thought a specific version of something was "perfect", then they shouldn't watch something that can only diminish their memory or enjoyment of that version.  And if one watched last night only to sneer or complain about it, what a paltry motive to watch anything and what a waste of their evening.

Well said, DR Pogue!

I agree!

I just realized that I am only several hours away from going back to the theater to try to live up to the hype.

Well, Citibank's IRA-investment dept really screwed up my weekend because they completely ignored all my requests on how to handle a withdrawal. It should have been in my account today, so I could see friends from California and Ireland this weekend, but some ass, rather than depositing it in my checking account as I requested, decided to make it a check and mail it to me. I've now canceled the check but it's too goddam late to retrieve the money until Monday.  What a crock of shit.

So, I'm home. And I wonder why I hate so many fools.

Good morning, all.

I guess I'm not friends on facebook with enough show queens or I've been able to ignore their comments most effectively.

I think pretty much my facebook friends are from here or are my bug and bird friends.

And finally, I will confess that when the children were singing "The Sound of Music" and the Captain finally starts to sing - I cried.  And I got rather misty on the final "Climb Every Mountain."  And as a former Rolf, I am grateful that he didn't rat them out like in the movie.

Siri, (as in a girls name) with a fringe (as in the British word for bangs) sure changes the meaning of the song. ;D

I have loads of Bernese Mountain Dog friends, Dear Readers, and high school friends.  I didn't see any negative responses to comments, but then maybe I wasn't paying attention.

Yep,  in the stage version, Rolf comes thru in a pinch and says there is no one in the garden.  It is was the least he could do for Liesel.

Show vibes to BK, TCB, and whoever else is doing a damn show tonight!

I'm going to one, a local production of BOEING BOEING.  But I don't need vibes for that.  I'll be fine!   :)
