THE ABRUPT NOTES THAT WEREN'T ABRUPT

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were both abrupt and not abrupt, and now it is time for you to post until the abrupt cows come home.

HHW was very slow and balky for the last hour, but now it seems to be fine again.

I'm often slow and balky for the first hour.  And the second.  And the third....

From last night's posts:  Thank you so much to Sam and also to vixmom.

vixmom - Thanks for your other note as well.

Good morning, all.

The craziness of my week is finally over, and I had one of those dead-tired sleeps that was solid and simply great.  Exactly what I needed.  Exactly what the doctor ordered.  He didn't, actually, but had I consulted him on it, I'm sure he would have.

Time now to enjoy a couple of Starbucks K-cups and the last of some very good, and very cinnamon/sugary, apple cider donuts.

Yesterday DR Jrand63 asked "DR CHAS SMITH what part of the concert always gets the most audience reaction?" -- which must be a good one because I had to think about it, so I observed this during last night's two performances.

The concert is a decades-long high school tradition with music presented by each chorus individually, all combined, a number of vocal solos, band, string orchestra, and full orchestra.  It always includes a large opening number to get all the forces on the stage (lately they've been using Leroy Anderson's "Christmas Festival"); a large skit medley; a traditional singing of "O Holy Night" with solos (and, at the final concert, alumni participation); and it always ends with the "Hallelujah" Chorus.  There's serious stuff, amusing stuff, you name it they do it.  They claim it's the longest running (and few remaining) "Candlelight" concert traditions in the state, and people are always up for it so everything gets a very enthusiastic response.  That being said, anything featuring student soloists gets the most reaction (with actually not very much woo-hoo-ing, it's nice to say), with the always loyal alumni presence and participation on "O Holy Night", followed by the "Hallelujah", being the clear winners.  Which I guess isn't all that profound an observation, but you asked!  :)

Their spring musical, btw, will be HAIRSPRAY.  For what that's worth.  I know nothing about it.  I've only ever seen the original John Waters film.  Got the score and CD last night.

Good morning.

I am glad to hear there is no woo-hooing at your concerts, DR ChasSmith. The only time I have ever woo-hooed is when Jinx sings "Cry," which is an appropriate time to woo-hoo.

Morning, all!

TOD: Only film I've seen Dame Judi in was Shakespeare in Love, which I thought was ok. Her performance of "Send in the Clowns" on the "Hey, Mr. Producer!" tribute to Cameron Mackintosh, on the other hand, was just magnificent.

"Blandish" is a perfect description of the chili that I made the other night when I forgot to add the cayenne and zhug. :)

Thursday morning greetings!  It's sunny and warmish here in SW Ohio.  I'm about to make gingerbread dough that I'll bake into cookies after my dental check-up this afternoon.  First a couple of phone calls!

Good morning, all.

Hopefully it's a day in which some needed work gets done. I've already made my first batch of Christmas baked goods. I hope to get in a second this afternoon some time.

I love Cranford, too!

Here's my physical therapist, Gurjeet, and his staff at their Christmas party last week. What a great group!

When my goddaughter Charlotte was in grades 1-12,the only films I saw were with her. I missed a lot but I was an authority on chick film during her high school days.  These days, I see very little, and i've probably been to the cinema maybe twice this year. The last was MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, and I loved it.

I have not said what I'm doing on LITTLE ME, DR ChasSmith. The Tams-Witmark rental materials have cut the 4th trumpet from the show. Working from the orchestra parts and the P/C, I'm reconstructing it. Forensic science in the musical theatre, and I'm pretty good at it.
