OMG! Part of the roof of the Apollo Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue in London has collapsed and killed several during a performance this afternoon of "The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Nighttime."

Yes it's receiving major, constant coverage on the news channels here. It is a very old theatre of course. No fatalities reported but many serious injuries.

That's good, in a way. One of the reports I read here said there were several fatalities. I hope that was wrong.

DR Jane, I am so impressed that you read 150 books in 2013.

I would be proud to read 50!

You are so inspiring.  You make me want to read more!

So terrible about the tragedy at the Apollo in London.

May God bless and lets pray for them!

Have I regaled you with the stories of my early days as a child model?

I gather you always had demonic with a flair for the dramatic? Sort of a child Nellie Lovett?

Had a grilled cheese and bacon sandwich, picked up no packages and have been dealing with more weird e-mails having to do with the recording project in February, the Kander and Ebb revue.  I'm two hours away from pulling the plug on it, because the people who are funding it simply don't listen, or don't want to hear the same things I've been saying since May of this year.  They just don't understand how Mr. Kander has complete control over the content of this recording.  I've said it a hundred times already, and still we're discussing it.  I have asked for a call and if I don't get it before I leave for the theater, when I return home I will cut the actors loose.

I watched the first fifty minutes of The Butler - oh, excuse me, Lee Daniels' The Butler - which is a load of chutzpah for someone whose fourth film this is.  It's exactly what you'd think - its sole purpose seems to be end-of-year Oscar bait because it's Screenwriting 101, Directing 101, and Acting 101.  From frame one you can actually predict how each moment will be handled.  And that's moviemaking today, and why I found Philomena so good - a real director.

Next up is SYCAMORE ROAD, Grisham's new book.  I'm impressed it only took me two months, since it was published, to get this from the library.  It seems to be the most popular book at the library so they have a lot of copies, plus I got on the queue fairly early.

Goodreads says:

Congrats! You have completed your goal of reading 150 books for the 2013 Reading Challenge!

150 of 150 (100%)

Congrats. Now read a book or three for me.

Thanks.  It is gone now, however, it said I was 4 or 5 books ahead of my goal. I'm sure I'll read at least one more book ;)

Congrats. Now read a book or three for me.

A few months ago, I was involved with a stage production of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe."  I've finally downloaded all the books of "The Chronicles of Narnia" from the library and am reading them on my Kindle (I just started "The Silver Chair").  I remember that I started to read them when I was in middle school, but I don't know if I even finished them.

Anyway, I'm reading them in original published order, instead of internal chronological order, which to me makes a lot of sense.  I'm enjoying them, but "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" seemed to be a total waste.  I have no idea what the point of it was.  We'll see if I feel that way about any of the other books.

What ‘The Butler’ gets wrong about Ronald Reagan and race.

I was looking forward to seeing the film until I began reading various articles similar to the one above.  I understand poetic license to make a story more engrossing, still this goes too far.

So do I...and I'm sure that a lot of people would love to have a new recording of the show.

FJL< haven't been to HHW since you posted the sad news about Toby.  So sorry.  You and Skip were the best dog daddies that he could have hoped for and you gave him a wonderful life.

Paul and I went to the movie Nebraska last night.  When it was over Paul said "Are we there yet?"  then he said "What day is it and what day did we come to the theater"

I shall shortly be on my way to the theater, after a long telephonic conversation - I think everyone has now heard me and it looks like we can proceed apace in terms of the recording.

I just had my first hot bath since last Friday's accident with a knife, and it felt really wonderful.  Washing oneself from a basin is no fun at all. I still have no idea when I will get back to the ER to have these stitches removed. Maybe on Saturday after the movie.

Morning, all!

TOD: Only film I've seen Dame Judi in was Shakespeare in Love, which I thought was ok. Her performance of "Send in the Clowns" on the "Hey, Mr. Producer!" tribute to Cameron Mackintosh, on the other hand, was just magnificent.

"Blandish" is a perfect description of the chili that I made the other night when I forgot to add the cayenne and zhug. :)

You regular doctor should be able to remove them.  Won't it be more expensive if you go to the ER?  Or did ER say the stitches would be removed at no additional charge?
