I am trying to book a plane ticket to Burbank but by golly the ticket prices are sky high! What happened...a couple of weeks ago they were rather affordable, and now that I need one...! Well, doggone it1

For ask BK day...I don't have a question at the moment. It seems I always think of good questions during the rest of the week, but when it comes to Wednesday and "Ask BK Day" I plum forget all the nifty questions I had thunk up. Maybe I will come up with something.

When I was living at home with the folks, we had a Siberian Spitz who went deaf pretty early in his life. Not that he let us notice that there was any difference--he always remained the same lively and lovable dog he was since he came to us as a pup.

Never have seen The Apple, but I believe I saw Wild in the Streets when it came out and I don't think I liked it at all. But, I'll see it again on DVD and see what I think.

They are all published in that they are all ASCAP and protected, but they haven't been published in a songbook. I have no idea if anyone would be interested in such a thing but maybe if What If is a hit I could talk to one of the Sheet Music People I know.

BK, I brought it up in chat the other night, but I locked up and missed the answer--are you thinking of doing a cast recording? Or at least a "keepsake" recording?

Will you be done with What If? once the run is over? From the reviews, I'm garnering that a lot of folks feel that the show has legs. Do you see an extended run somewhere on the horizon (or on the vertical?) Would the current cast be available or do they already have future commitments?

We are thinking of doing a recording. We are also trying to see if we're going to extend one more week at The Hudson. After that, they have another show booked in. I've also been talking to people about the possibility of moving the show somewhere, and I'd like to get people in from NY but haven't done anything in that regard.

I would like to ask BK and DRs for information on transferring LPs to CD. There are several companies listed on the internet who do this. Any recommendations? Is it safe to mail your cherished LPs to such a company? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I've never used a company to do it, so I don't know how or even what they do. I have a stand-alone (well, two) burners and do it here at home. I don't use the computer even though I have one in there, too. I gather there is a way to transfer LPs directly into the computer and then to use some sort of program should you wish to get rid of some ticks and pops.

Hey, Gunther!

If you have a turntable and a home PC that has an audio input jack, I would seriously consider doing this on your own. With the proper software (I use High Criteria's Total Recorder), this is actually a pretty easy process.

Personally, I don't like the idea of mailing my favorite LPs, no matter how well I could package them. And then there's the possibility that any company that performs such a niche business could go under while they have your LPs in posession.

But if you do have to use an outside duping business to do this, find out if you can send a cassette copy to use as a source instead of the actual LP.

Re: the Chinese restaurant comment

I don't know any restaurants here that serve anything other than chinese food. Although at Chinese buffets I sometimes see fries or little hot dogs for the kids.

-Whew! Yes, it's still morning. I ended up sleeping in a bit, even though I got to bed "early" last night - well, early for me... In any case...

RE: Chinese Food - Most, if not all, of the Chinese restaurants I've been to in the DC area and Richmond have an "American" food section of the menu. It seems to be geared toward kids, but a lot of adults take advantage of it too. And, pricewise, sometimes the fried chicken at Chinese restaurants is cheaper than it is at KFC, Popeye's, etc. Actually, in Richmond, the section of the menu with fried chicken, french fries, etc., is sometimes labeled "Special Foods". -I guess fried chicken would be a "special food" to a Chinese person.

RE: Cuban/Chinese restaurants - Thanks, DR Jay for that "reminder". My favorite is "Chinita Linda" in Chelsea. I usually get an order of "yucca con chicharron" for an appetizer, followed by Hunan Chicken for my entree!

OH - but before I go...

I have ordered fried chicken at Chinese restaurants before - well, from at least one Chinese take out place in Richmond. One thing I noticed right away is that the chicken is cooked/fried to order instead of sitting under a heatlamp for an unspecified amount of time. In fact, if you choose to order a half-chicken, they "warn" you that it will take about 15-20 minutes to get your order - and many people wait for it. In other words, it's "fresh fried" chicken - and pretty good.

You could get a flask and hide it on your leg with a garter...like Marilyn Monroe in "Some Like It Hot!" Of course, the cherry coke would get warm and, although some like it hot, I'm sure you wouldn't like it warm.

I have to agree with DR Dan (tM). I would not let my cherished LPs out of my house. Even if I had to put a microphone in front of a speaker and upload them to the computer that way, I would definitely NOT send them to some company to do this.

The theater right down from my house is now showing DE-LOVELY. I've been wondering all week if I should give in to my curiosity and see it, or wait for the DVD rental which will only be a month or two from now and save some money (movie ticket more expensive than a DVD rental.)

I have to admit when I was in college with a lot of time on my hands, I got very hooked on soaps. They were all 30 minutes back then, so I could see three a day in only 90 minutes. I watched DAYS OF OUR LIVES at 2, GUIDING LIGHT at 2:30, and GENERAL HOSPITAL at 3. I was an equal opportunity soap lover watching one per network during those last three years of college. Most semesters, I had all my classes in the morning leaving the afternoons free for soaps, but occasionally I had to have a 2 p.m. class a couple of days a week that would cause me to miss them. Of course, you never got behind because nothing much EVER happened in a mere 30 minute time period with time out for lots of commercials.

When I graduated from college, I dropped my soaps all cold turkey. I was too busy with my first year of teaching to think about them. For awhile my mom kept me apprised of DAYS and GH (she watched them, too), but I just gradually lost interest.
