I love a good steak and a good steak house vibe, but there are legendary ones I have yet to experience, such as Peter Luger's in Brooklyn and I hope to rectify that someday. I have also never been to a Palm or a Ruth's Chris.
I guess I'd have to say that, by default, at least a few of the technically best steak dinners I've had were those enjoyed with the more knowledgeable people in the company I worked for, and on their expense accounts. One was at Stonehenge in Ridgefield, CT (close to me in distance, but not to my bank account) and two were in jernts (whose names I've long forgotten) in the Atlanta area. Smith & Wollensky in NYC, which I liked but always suspected it wasn't quite the equal of some of the other NYC steak houses. But I've enjoyed many wonderful steak dinners at places that were hardly the world's greatest, with people whose company and conversation made the event worth remembering. The world's great food is, well, always great, but it's the overall experience that counts.
