Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of books and were fair, and now it is time for you to post until the fair cows come home.

Topic of the Day:

Not a fan of steak.  I know that that's weird, but it is what it is. ;D

Another dose.

Thanks, Dakota and Vixmom and John G.!  I almost had a heart attack last night, though.  I turned on the computer and started the sound board program, but all the links to the audio files within the program weren't pointing to the right place!  I couldn't figure out what happened.  THERE WAS NO SOUND!!  Gabe, the stage manager poked around and realized that the links were pointing to a main folder, but all the tracks were in a sub-folder.  And for some reason, the program wouldn't let us relink to the sub-folder.  So Gabe just copied all the tracks from the sub-folder and pasted them into the main folder and it all worked.  Whew...disaster averted!! :D

Otherwise, the show itself went pretty well.  The kids in the audience seemed to like it, and the adults did, too.  There were no mistakes on stage or backstage.  It's pretty solid.

bk, I just love reading about book fairs. Thanks for your wonderful descriptions. And fun to hear about the specific pricing on some of the titles, too.

TOD

I love a good steak and a good steak house vibe, but there are legendary ones I have yet to experience, such as Peter Luger's in Brooklyn and I hope to rectify that someday.  I have also never been to a Palm or a Ruth's Chris.

I guess I'd have to say that, by default, at least a few of the technically best steak dinners I've had were those enjoyed with the more knowledgeable people in the company I worked for, and on their expense accounts.  One was at Stonehenge in Ridgefield, CT (close to me in distance, but not to my bank account) and two were in jernts (whose names I've long forgotten) in the Atlanta area.  Smith & Wollensky in NYC, which I liked but always suspected it wasn't quite the equal of some of the other NYC steak houses.  But I've enjoyed many wonderful steak dinners at places that were hardly the world's greatest, with people whose company and conversation made the event worth remembering.  The world's great food is, well, always great, but it's the overall experience that counts.

Good morning, all! I had to get out of bed to see if my friend had answered my email abut canceling lunch today.  There was no reply and I hate leaving him in the lurch. For some moronic reason, I don't have his cell phone number, so I called his home in DC and left a message. I hope he gets it before he heads yo the Brooklyn Diner to meet me.

I will be heading back to bed very shortly, and I'm still unsure about tomorrow. My head aches, and my eyesore not happy with too much light. And those are the more pleasant symptoms!

The omens for this weekend are not good.

I can't remember the last time I've been to a steak house.

But the best stake houses I've been to were/are in Montreal. High end: Moishe's Regular: Schwartz's and The Main

The weather predictions for tomorrow are hardly dire, so if it stays that way I'll drive in tomorrow for greatest flexibility.  As it stands now, I believe DR KevinH and I are the only ones going?  And we'll wait and see how DR Elmore is feeling.

My only train option for the branch line I live on is 10:39 AM arriving Grand Central at 12:41 PM, return trip departing at 8:38 or 9:08 PM.  That's all okay, as it accommodates enjoying a nosh after the matinee.  But I'll drive if I can.  If DR Elmore doesn't feel like schlepping to Midtown, perhaps a little get-together at Artie's might be doable.

I'll just hang loose on this till tonight or first thing in the morning, then post here what I'm doing.

DR KevinH, where are you sitting?  I'm in front row balcony, a little right of center.  I'll PM y'all my cell #, etc.

Travel vibes for KevinH.

Great news, George, on averting sound board disaster.

TOD: I love steak, but I probably enjoy it most when I grill a packet of New York strips or rib-eyes from Costco, more than I do anything from Ruth's Chris, Morton's or the other steakhouses in town.

I've done that a few times. I'll have a dozen or so friends over, folks who can't afford those places, and we've divvied up the cost of the meat. Everyone made a side dish, appetizer or dessert. I'll throw in the red wine, and we all have a great time.

Haven't been able to do that in the last couple of years because of classes and work. Maybe this summer.
