The choral concert was great. It involved a choir, of course, but also a pianist, several percussionists, soprano and tenor soloists, a superb brass quintet, art work, and puppets.

GIANT puppets.

Judged the singing contest - some really good talent there this year. Then I came right home and called Muse Margaret and we went over everything I'd proofed. Then I proofed the final three chapters and then we went over those, and now I'm entering those fixes. It's lots of tiny stuff, which I'll finish tonight and then I'll print out copies tomorrow and also e them to my proofers.

I finished PRIDE & PREJUDICE, watched DOWNTON ABBEY, and I'm heading for bed. I'm hoping to back to physical therapy tomorrow for the first time in a week and four days, and I am looking forward to it. I'll see how I feel in the morning.

I heard from the friend I jilted for lunch yesterday. All is good, and I'll see him when he comes up for THE MOST HAPPY FELLA at Encores!

I think Elizabeth Garvie is the best of the Miss Elizabeth Bennett's on screen. Jennifer Ehle in the1995 production isn't bad, but Garvie nails it, as do Natalie Ogle and Tessa Peake-Jones as Lydia and Mary Bennett.

So here's my Book Report on The Saga of "Star Wars": a few weeks ago, a coworker (also named George) and I were talking in our staff room about "Star Wars" and the original versions vs. the "special" editions. He wanted the original theatrical versions to show his 15 year old daughter (just because), but the set that has the original versions are pretty expensive. They were only released once on DVD with the "special" edition BUT the original versions were on the bonus discs and NOT anamorphically enhanced, so they're essentially full-frame widescreen (when you watch them on widescreen TVs, they're "windowboxed" with black bars around all four sides, not just the top and bottom). I have a videotape set of the original versions, but they’re copy-guarded. One of my staff (Ruth) was also in on the conversation and she said that she has (shhh...don't tell anyone!!) a device to override copy-guarding. I borrowed it and was able to burn a DVD of "Star Wars" but it looks worse than the videotape.

Then I remembered that they were released on laserdisc, which are not copy-guarded at all.

I wanted them in a digital format, so I looked on eBay and watched a few sets and eventually won a set of the "Special Widescreen Edition" of the original version. They arrived last week and I was so excited to start recording them! That night, I started recording the first side of the first disc of "Star Wars," and when it stopped, I hit the eject button on my player...but nothing happened! The drawer wouldn't open! I hit the button again and nothing happened. I hit the play button and nothing happened! I turned off the power and turned it back on and again, NOTHING HAPPENED! And nothing worked.

So, I left the disc in the player and the next day brought it to a local place that repairs all kinds of players. They were able to fix it AND get the disc out! I just got it back yesterday and was FINALLY able to watch and record my own DVD of "Star Wars"! I will also be making copies for several friends. Granted, it'll be windowboxed, but it's copyable.

After I came home from "The House on Pooh Corner" today, I watched and recorded "The Empire Strikes Back." I'm going to watch and record "Return of the Jedi" but before I do, I'm now watching my purchased DVD of Episode II and will watch Episode III next. A couple of months ago, a friend posted on Facebook a link to someone's blog about the best way to watch the Star Wars series to maximize the enjoyment and minimize the frustration. It's called The Machete Order and makes a lot of sense! You watch them in this order: IV, V, II, III, VI.

Notice that Episode I isn't included. He explains the reasons why it makes sense (essentially, II and III become an extended flashback), but he also admits a few drawbacks. I've watched IV and V and now I'm watching II while the DVD for V is burning. I'll then watch III and finally watch and record the last laserdisc of VI tonight. I've never had a movie marathon before. It's pretty interesting seeing them again after all these years...and in this order.
