I discovered I never entered a book I read last year onto Goodreads which means I read 155 books, not 154.  I am very proud of myself as I have only read thirteen, as in the title of today's notes, books this year.  Granted most of them were somewhat long books but then I often read long books.

Glad Pogue reminded me about the Langella book, which I always meant to read - several others listed here that I'll have to check out, too.

I've read 14 (some short). I haven't been reading as much because of the Olympics.  Plus the book I want to read is still in verification at the library. Usually verification just takes a few hours. But now i'm thinking it probably won't be ready till monday (assuming i am first on the list which is not a sure thing).

DUh.....how could I have forgotten MR BK's two books?

I am properly chastised and they move to the top of the list.

Me, too! How could i forget any book that mentions me!

Got proofer number two's suggestions - have already made some, some have to run by Muse Margaret.

My bookcase crepitates with an overabundance of books to read and re-read.  Some recommendations (in no particular order):

1. Steven C. Smith's A Heart at Fire's Center: The Life and Music of Bernard Herrmann
2. Donald Spoto's The Dark Side of Genius: The Life of Alfred Hitchcock
3. Patrick McGilligan's Alfred Hitchcock: A Life in Darkness and Light
4. Simon Callow's Orson Welles, Vol. 1: The Road to Xanadu
5. Frank Jacobs's The MAD World of William M. Gaines
6. Shelley: Also Known as Shirley by Shelley Winters (natch)
7. Lillian Hellman's Scoundrel Time (relates to BK's note re blacklist era)
8. A Talent to Amuse: A Biography of Noel Coward by Sheridan Morley
9. Jack Benny by Irving A. Fein
10. Chuck Amuck: The Life and Times of an Animated Cartoonist by Chuck Jones
11. Groucho: The Life and Times of Julius Henry Marx by Stefan Kanfer
12. Darden Asbury Pyron's Liberace: An American Boy
13. Eugene B. Bergmann's Excelsior, You Fathead!: The Art and Enigma of Jean Shepherd
14. Backstage with Julia: My Years with Julia Child by Nancy Verde Barr
15. Ralph Rosenblum's When The Shooting Stops ... The Cutting Begins: A Film Editor's Story

Okay, that's enough for now.  If I think of others, I'll post them. :)

Just found out that a friend of mine from college days, Angelo Henderson, who went on to win a Pulitzer Prize and became a well-known radio personality in Detroit, has died. No details on cause of death. Nothing.

Had seen Angelo since I graduated back in 1983. But I followed his career.

I've read A Book by Desi Arnaz then read Love, Lucy by Lucille Ball and I still can't figure out the whole story there unfortunately.

Been sleeping off and on all day, and I definitely feel better for it.  I think I'm up for a movie, and I think that movie is going to be Dassin's THIEVES' HIGHWAY.

Although a biopic of sorts, I thoroughly enjoyed Geoffrey Rush as Peter Sellers in "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers", despite the opinion that the book it's based on is not the definitive biography.

On a related note, I did enjoy reading A Splurch in the Kisser: The Movies of Blake Edwards by Sam Wasson.
