Once agents are involved that's the end of it.  They'll always tell their clients not to do Waiver - nothing in it for them - just as they'll always tell their clients exactly what they want to hear - that there are lots of balls in the air and lots of stuff coming up.  I get it.  But to me, you commit then you commit.  The entire length of this commitment is four weeks, top to bottom.  I wrote him back and told him we're moving on.

Rain has stopped again.  But I'm not chancing going over the hill when it's possible it will start up again really strongly.  Hard to know, but I know this city well enough to know trying to negotiate that long a drive in the rain is insanity.  And it looks like I won't even start working with Grant till six or after.

I see that Sandy Bainum has been nominated for a MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs) award (specifically the "LaMott Friedman Award") in the category of Recording for "Simply!"

Congratulations Sandy and BK!

Agreed!

Richard and I joined the throngs at Kroger to shop for Mom and ourselves before the snowpocalypse that's predicted for Sunday and Monday.  At least the weather's holding off until after tomorrow, when we have tickets to double date with Rob and Mary Linda to see EVITA at Cincinnati's Aronoff Center.  Former DR Jason is merch manager on this tour and we're all going out for dinner after the show.

And we're expecting one or all of the following on Monday, depending on temperatures:  rain, sleet, snow, freezing rain.

As usual in LA, have to find a new Daisy Mae.  The one I'd cast, who committed and then said she "misunderstood" she was REALLY committing, had her agent e-mail me - I gave them all the details and he apologized and said she couldn't commit this far in advance for Waiver theater - six weeks in advance.  He has all kinds of things she might, could possibly, maybe could get.  They asked if I could wait till the end of March, at which point, if nothing else in the world is happening for her, then she'll commit.  For me, not even worth a response and I'm on the lookout for someone who understands how much fun this will be.  So, she'll end up in a hundred dollar reading somewhere (she'd make more with us - there's a stipend for the pros that LACC has built into the budget and it's not horrible), or maybe, possibly, she'll end up doing a show for one of the usual theaters or maybe she'll just be sitting around in April should nothing work out.

Do you think it is her agent that told her she "misunderstood"?

BK, I'm sorry to hear of the Daisy Mae megillah! I'm sure you've seen other possibilities for the part, and I hope you can cast the role soon. I loo forward to all the casting info you give us.

Last night, I supped as an invited guest at the Women's Club of Minneapolis. And no, I didn't go in drag - they do allow men in, and even as members.
The setting was lovely, as was the meal and the service. It is located adjacent to St. Mark's Cathedral, Loring Park, and the Walker Art Center.

Is that near the fork in the road?

Well, it's time for me to head out.  My sister had me order a couple of flat-iron hair flatteners for her and they arrived today.  I'll bring them over and visit for a bit.  I have some TV watching to do when I get home...and probably some laundry.  I'm working concessions again tomorrow evening.

Be back later!

Greetings, all,

A late entry, I know. I spent the day in the rain solving an ongoing smog check hell issue. I won't bore you with the saga. I'm just happy that it's done and my car can legally be on the road. (I was behind 2 months, because of my time away in Maine).

Congrats on the CD being up for an award, BK!

And now to dry off and arm up. Happy Friday eve all!   :)

I'm glad you got the problem solved.  Traveling is difficult when you can't be there to take care of things.

Our first official review - from a media outlet called Hi! Drama
(a TV program, here's their facebook presence https://www.facebook.com/hidramas?ref=stream )

From Hi Drama

EVA HEINEMANN REVIEWS
I NEVER MISS A LARRY KRAMER MUSICAL: a PARODY CHAT WITH BETTE MIDLER
 Written by Fred Landau
 Director/Dramaturg: Michael Kirk Lane
 Music Director : Clare Cooper
PART OF MIDWINTER MADNESS SHORT PLAY FESTIVAL:

Fred Landau is a latter day Alan Sherman. He takes familiar music and adds his own biting wit to the re-conceived lyrics.

If you are unfamiliar with him you can find his Parodies on You Tube or his book 21st Century Oldies (Parody Lyrics from A to B)  Volume One.

In this case he takes on Bette Midler played with brassy charm by Jennifer Pace who anxiously awaits with Jo (Clare Cooper on the piano) for the Tony Nominations where she ends up being blatantly snubbed.

The songs to tell of her woe are "The Boogie Woogie Broad Whose name begins with a B" How well her show is doing despite not being a musical in "The Gross" (The Rose) and the Wind Beneath My Wings becomes an anthem of disgust as "They make the blood boil beneath my skin."

Other songs utilized were "From a Distance and "Quarter to Three" among others and you will just have to see this fun silly delightful over too soon show.

The only thing I didn't get was the title because Larry Kramer has nothing to do with this as far as I can tell.

Jennifer Pace is a consummate performer and can really belt out those songs.

 Performances:
 Saturday, March 1st at 10:15PM
 Sunday March 2nd at 7PM

at Roy Arias Studios: Stage II
 300 West 43rd Street, 4th Floor
at the Corner of 8th Avenue

Back from Grant's.  The rain was torrential going there.  Then it stopped when I got there.  It remained stopped until I left, at which point it got heavy again - it was too late to try and get to the theater and from what I was told, while the 405 wasn't that bad, the rain was very heavy.  So, I got some soup and came home.  It's stopped again, but I'm sure will start up soon.  I was also told that in Santa Monica it isn't coming down at all, hence we have a pretty full house tonight.  I would have liked to be there with Nick and Julie but alas.

Good evening.  I watched Gravity tonight.  It was a DirectTV  pay per view.  It wasn't as horrible as a couple of my friends made it sound.  I watched it in 2D so I didn't get all the effects.  I wouldn't have put it in a best picture category, but it did keep my attention and it was short.

We're supposed to get 3-6 inches of snow tomorrow.  it will be the first snow that big all year.  I'm looking forward to it.  And to the fact I don't HAVE to be anywhere and don't HAVE to work this weekend.  I think I'll sleep in and take it from there.   I would like to make a quick trip to the store in the morning.  The snow isn't supposed to start until afternoon, so I'm hoping to run my errands in the am and then head home and stay here
