Good Morning all:

TOD;

BOOK;

LES MIS,  (ALSO THE PLAY) (However I do think that the SPIRITUAL SIDE OVERSHADOWS THE POLITICAL)

Many of Rod Serling's TWILIGHT ZONE episodes were very political.  Such as the following:

THE SHELTER
THE OBSOLETE MAN
NUMBER 12 LOOKS JUST LIKE YOU

FILMS:

BRAVE NEW WORLD (ALSO BOOK)
LORD OF THE FLYS (ALSO BOOK)
THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE
MR SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON (LOVE MY JIMMY STEWART)

She of the Evil Eye is here (earlier and earlier it seems) and I may delay the barbecue adventure until tomorrow - we shall see.

DR Jeanne:
Quote
Sorry to read about all the delivery mishaps. We had terrible mail service when I lived in Virginia. I would get my neighbors' mail all the time--same number, different street. One year there was a big inspection at the regional postal center. THREE bills failed to arrive at all--and that's just from the mail I was expecting. God knows whatever else was missing. I think someone "cleaned up" the postal center. I tried phoning the post office, but received no satisfaction whatsoever. I was just told repeatedly that it wasn't the mail carrier's fault, which of course I'd never claimed. I was just trying to report the problems. A few months later I learned that our area was given a commendation for the best postal service in Virginia!!!

Remind me not to move to Virginia if that is the best post office ;)

We always check our mail to be sure it is ours, as I'm pretty sure our neighbors do.  Our nice mailman was terrible about putting the wrong mail in the boxes for his first couple of years.  He has greatly improved with time.  But at least he is nice.

Several months ago we received our neighbors AARP magazine and dropped it into her box.  Later she called laughing that she had given me hers instead of mine.  I told her to keep them both.

Just saw the Hollywood wives episode of I Love Lucy, which featured Sheila MacRae, who died yesterday.

I did not know that.  I hope her last years were good.

Saturday morning greetings!  Day 3 of the book sale and I'm scheduled to work 3-6pm.  We feel we're somewhat behind last year, money-wise, but hopes are still high.

Vibes you match the money raised last year!

Thanks, DR Jane, but we set our expectations a little lower this year because of our move back downtown.

Happy Saturday, all!

Manducate, huh? Sounds like the act of teaching men things that women already know.   :D

BK, do you own a pithy helmet?

Oh my political themed things - sooo many good ones.
First that come to mind are the series THE NEWSROOM and THE WEST WING, and the film ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN.
No doubt I'll think of tons more as I wake up more.  :P

I just had a loverly visit from DR Ben and Anthony, who dropped off a CD and visited for a bit. It was nice to see them, gossip a bit, and catch up.

I will pack up Toyland and head for home.

TOD - I must say, the only political show I've ever been interested in is House of Cards.  I'm almost done with Season 2.  Sometimes when I watch this, I wish I had paid more attention to my government classes in school.  I still find it riveting and exciting, though.

In addition to the movies and TV shows mentioned earlier, I would add:

NOTORIOUS (Hitchcock and Narzis, as Churchill pronounced the word according to Mel Brooks)
"BACK THERE" (Twilight Zone episode where Russell Johnson goes back in time to try to stop the assassination of Lincoln)
EXECUTIVE ACTION (Way before Oliver Stone's "JFK")
JFK (Love to see Joe Pesci as David Ferrie!)
NIXON (Love to see the scenery chewing)
SECRET HONOR (Great acting by Philip Baker Hall as Nixon, later Lt. Bookman on "Seinfeld")
THE IPCRESS FILE (More conspiracy with a British version of MK-ULTRA and Michael Caine)
FUNERAL IN BERLIN (More Michael Caine)
MARATHON MAN (Olivier as a Nazi dentist, "Is it safe?" and no novocaine for Dustin Hoffman)
THE BOYS FROM BRAZIL (Olivier as a Simon Wiesenthal Nazi hunter)
NETWORK (Faye Dunaway as a TV news producer trying to get inside a Patty Hearst-style terror group)
THE PARALLAX VIEW (Warren Beatty peels away the political conspiracy onion and doesn't like what he finds)
REDS (Warren Beatty!  Nicholson is extremely good as Eugene O'Neill)
ANIMAL FARM (Animated, yes, but still scary)
ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST (The Old West filtered through the politics of 1960s Italy)
OUR MAN IN HAVANA (Both the book by Greene and the movie with Alec Guinness, satirical thriller)
JULIUS CAESAR (The Mankiewicz version with Marlo Brandon [that's the way my mom said it, so I'm sticking with it])
WR: MYSTERIES OF THE ORGANISM (Wilhelm Reich!)
THE PRIVATE FILES OF J. EDGAR HOOVER (Fun Larry Cohen TV movie with Broderick Crawford as Hoover bulldozing!)

My oh my, just look at all those great political thrillers I didn't think of!

And hey, someone besides me who knows about and remembers EXECUTIVE ACTION?  It opened at the Chinese, and being quite the JFK assassination nerd back then, I went to it a few times.  I was recently surprised and delighted to find, among my roadshow movie programs, that I had a newspaper-style program from that, which I'd completely forgotten about:  eight pages (on newsprint) of facts and photographs about the event and the theories and the film.
