Dan M, for whatever it's worth, I will put this entire story in the notes - we get ten million visitors to my blog a year - tell the bank that unless they do the right thing, you will go public - here, on TV (local news stations love this sort of thing) and everywhere else.

TOD:

When I was younger, I enjoyed the horror comics like EERIE, CREEPY and WEIRD TALES.  These were (now obvious to me) homages/rip-offs of the earlier VAULT OF HORROR and TALES FROM THE CRYPT.  I also enjoyed HEAVY METAL.  Throughout my life, I've been a big fan of classic MAD.  I stopped reading the newer editions since the mid-1980s as I feel the magazine changed too much.  Knowing a bit about the original publisher William Gaines, after he passed away, the magazine became far too corporate, which I think he would have abhorred.  The magazine also changed over to slick, color pages.  Gaines always preferred newsprint, and once Harvey Kurtzman left EC, color left for the most part.

Thank you Bruce, and everyone for your supportive and kind words and vibes.  I will gather my thoughts together and make a case to the bank.  I think I need to present it as logically and chronologically as possible to emphasize the gap.

In late 2013, there was one charity that did not send any money, but agreed to sponsor a website for me to generate funds.  I didn't answer one way or the other.  Maybe I should revisit that offer as well.

As much as I have been through last year, cancer diagnosis and treatments, not knowing if I would make it through, the robbery and loss of many prized items and family mementos, and now the loss of this money, I am very grateful to be here with you, Bruce, and all of the DRs that are now a part of my everyday life.  Bruce, you truly are a mensch, as we used to say back in NY, and you have attracted some really great folks here.  I'm very humbled to be included with you.

DR Dan M, even though your friend is at fault I can totally understand your not wanting to press charges against him.

However, I think the bank is also at fault. You revoked the POA and they endorsed your check. They should be held responsible for that. I would not let that go.

DR Dan, it has been a pleasure getting to know you, as DR Jane said. Vibes that this situation gets cleared up quickly and without additional stress at a time when you don't need it.

Dan, is there danger that if the bank is held up to ridicule, THEY might pursue action against your roommate?

NEIL SEDAKA's 75th birthday!

Happy Birthday, Mr. Sedaka!

. . . . and Happy Birthday to one of my all-time favorite cartoonists from the classic years of MAD Magazine:

AL JAFFEE
Born on this date in 1921!

Adjusting to a new eyeglass prescription. The frames will also need to be adjusted - they keep sliding down my nose!  Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln...

Tonight's grilled cheese sandwiches include one with goat cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, basil and manchego and another with swiss and aged cheddar. This madness has to stop.

but what kind of bread?

Dan , I am very sorry to hear about your travails.    is your friend /roommate still your roommate?
And  is it possible  with his addiction problem, that he was responsible your  robbery  as well as for the check theft?

I understand your reluctance to pursue a once trusted friend, and I believe FJL has a good point, the bank  may wish to take action against the person who cashed the check
