Hairspray was lots of fun. It was well done and there were some very good kids in the show. There were some sound problems and I lost some lyrics and words but it wasn't enough to make it a real problem. All this work for only 4 performances. They opened on Thursday, had a performance on Friday and 2 yesterday (matinee and evening). Some of the kids seemed a bit tired but overall the energy was good and a good time was had by all.

We didn't go to Olive Garden after the show. It's been raining here since Friday afternoon so we decided to go back home and order Chinese food. A nice employee of the restaurant delivered the food to us. I had chicken with string beans.

I'd set my clock for 6:30 AM but was tossing and turning well before that with little backaches that were just perceptible enough to be annoying. Turned the alarm off and laid in bed till seven. But now I'm up and at 'em. What exactly "'em" is, I don't know yet.

The musicals at this school run for six performances over two weekends, plus a couple of weekday morning ones for students. They used to run for three weekends, which was HELL.

A lot of shows in NYMF or the Fringe put in as much rehearsal work as an off-Broadway show, for a run for only five performances.

Good morning, all1 I hope I am seeing TRANSPORT at the Irish Rep this afternoon, but I've still had no word from Joshie. I was going to buy a ticket on Friday and he sent me this email: John is going to check tomorrow for Sunday matinee. Don't buy anything yet I will keep you posted.

So, I will go to Toyland, which is 5 blocks from the theatre, accomplish what I need to do and wait for further information. If I don't get to it today, that's fine. I can buy a ticket for one of next weekend's performances.

So, i'm ff to Toyland, and i have no further news at the moment.

The Zephyr Theatre!

I was in there exactly once, in the late 1970s, to see a friend perform in a play called BAGEL INCIDENT by Samuel Gerstein, about which I remember exactly nothing. At the time, my friend worked in one of my regular Beverly Hills lunch haunts, Bon Appetit on Beverly Drive. I hadn't remembered the horseshoe seating, but the one picture on their website brings it back well enough. Miraculously, the program survives. It contains ads for Fellini's, which I'm not sure I was ever in, and Posh Bagel and Bagel Nosh (do you detect a pattern here?).

I see the Zephyr is in the block to the east of the original Johnny Rocket's (still there), and if I'm not mistaken, the Thai restaurant Tommy Tang's was in that building on the other corner, between the two. But those came in the 1980s when Melrose fairly exploded with excitement. That was a wonderful time.

You also get an LP version, a CD version and booklet. People are complaining that they didn't include the alternate mono versions especially Cornet Man.

I love the Johnny Rocket's in Hoboken.

The other one I've been to, in Atlantic City, was a little less exciting, IIRC.

That set looks wonderful, as far as the (presumably high quality) vinyl pressing and the reproduction of the original art is concerned. But the price is crazy, and I've read some of the complaints about the lack of those other tracks. I'm no expert on Funny Girl, but it certainly does seem like this kind of thing could have been so much more.
