TOD:

I finally thought of something!

I am very soft-spoken. And restaurants are often noisy places. The result is that I often do not get what I had ordered, or items are left off my order. My DH is resigned by now; it happens so often.

This is why, IMHO, orders should be repeated back to the customer.  Of course with my hearing so lousy now I wouldn't know what they were saying in a loud restaurant.

Embarrassing are some of the things I have thought people have said that simply didn't make sense, and I know immediately it isn't what they said by the expression that says "you idiot" when I question them.  :-[

The latest forecast model suggests that we may get up to a foot of snow overnight Thursday night.     :P

My nephew's diagnosis is Kidney Stone.  Ouch!  But he may get to come home....if things move along....

Great empathy. I think I passed a tiny one this morning.

I have had 3 kidney stones. I wouldn't wish that pain on anyone.

Has anyone gotten their book yet?

No. But the book Trauma and Mastery in Life and Art arrived in the mail today. I'm sure all will want to borrow this page-turner. ;)

TOD - During the opening credits of a movie, I whispered to my date, "When does this take place?"  The movie was "Summer of '42."

LOL!

I can tell you that since I have been treated for the sleep apnea, my driving skills have improved greatly.

I totally blame sleep apnea with my always, no matter where it was that I needed to be, ending up in Pasadena during my last vacation to LA.

Great one. I have been helping a friend on FB who just started using his mask and it has left him terrified. But he'll be grateful shortly, I hope. I know I was.

TOD:

I'm sure it involved alcohol. And I'm sure I needn't conjure it up, whatever it was. At least not while I'm obsessed with trauma. Too self-fulfilling.

Another foolish thing I can recount is something that happened a couple of years ago when I was meeting some people for the first time.  I wanted to make a good impression, but I do not like to shave.  Since I do not want a full beard, I must shave.  Electric razors do not give me a close enough shave, so I use blades.  My skin is sensitive and I can't tolerate daily shaving, but even when I do shave, later in the day the beard starts back.  My allergies were acting up and I needed some tissues.  The only ones available were Kleenex which get shredded by my beard.  When I met these people, I had bits of Kleenex sticking to my face.  I looked like the lint trap from a dryer.  I felt foolish, and now I try to avoid Kleenex.  Unfortunately, that leaves facial tissue that is the consistency of paper towel.

DR DAN M that reminds me of a story I read in the Reader's Digest "Life in These United States" section.

A mother was taking a nap when she felt her 4 year old daughter patting her face.....she pretended to still be asleep, and eventually the daughter stopped....a few minutes later there was a knock on the door.  The woman got up and answered it.  The mailman had a package for her to sign for.....she thought he looked at her strangely.

Afterwards she went to look in the mirror and found that her daughter had plastered her face with S&H Green Stamps.

since I have been treated for the sleep apnea

I am having an evaluation interview in the next few weeks, and then possibly a sleep study.

It is a good thing to get checked, DR Sing-a-Long!

You must of looked funny but I think you should grow a short beard so you can use soft Kleenex again.

Here's a story that actually happened to my Mom.  She came to the US in 1959 and picked up more American English as time went by, but she never fully got rid of her accent.  As good as her command of English was, I think she always thought first in her native language, translated what she wanted to say, and then spoke aloud in English.  Translations are not accurate due to idiomatic expressions.

She was working in a department store in NYC that some DRs may remember called Mays.  It was the holiday season and she was hired as seasonal help.  She was asked by a harried customer where the toy department was.  My Mom earnestly wanted to be helpful and told the customer that the department was in the "behind" of the store.  After the laughter subsided, she was told what she said could be taken a whole different way.  She was at first embarrassed, but laughed later at her unintentionally funny statement.

Mom was a great source of unintentionally funny statements.  Several years back, we were watching the Stanley Donen movie BEDAZZLED which I really like a lot.  My Mom walked by the TV and said that that must be a funny movie because it starred Nutley Doodley.  Of course, she meant Dudley Moore, but her way was much funnier and I can never forget how hard she laughed when I told her.  When she laughed hard, no sound came out, so in itself made us all laugh even harder!

After embarrassing myself with my laugh too many times I have learned to control it.  I can laugh so hard I can't breathe and then I makes terrible noises trying to get air in my lungs and I often end up hyperventilating.

Worst was the time I was pregnant with Bryan and Keith and I were walking around an outdoor mall. I crossed the line from laughing hard to crying. He was very concerned and didn't know what to do with me.  We were both shocked and embarrassed.  The next time, yes there was a next, I did that we were with a group of our friends.  When I began crying they became upset and worried.  Keith just waved his hand and said to ignore me.  ;D

DR Dan M's story about his mother reminds me of another TOD on myself.

I was in Madrid and wanted to purchase some sunburn lotion. I didn't know the Spanish words, so I very cleverly, I thought, asked for a "cream for after the sun." Only I got my prepositions mixed up.
What I actually asked for was "a cream for behind the sun."

The druggist just stood there looking at me, perplexed.       :)

I should have just pointed to my red skin.

DR Jane - It is not unusual to have April snow here, but a foot of snow at one time in April? I think that is a bit unusual.
