Good morning, all.

Having stayed up till All Hours last night -- well, just to Some Hours, but it felt like All this morning -- I tried the going back to bed thing again.  And it didn't take.  So, I stayed in bed late but didn't sleep late.  Oh well.

Can we say:    "Coffee"?

Good morning.

I read the list of bad movies from yesterday, and I have not seen even one.

I tried to watch Plan 9, but I kept falling asleep. What I saw of it was pretty bad.

TOD

DVD:
Cat People (1982) is what I watched last night and, perhaps surprisingly, I loved it.  (Had only ever seen it in '82.)  Might get the BLU for a bit of an upgrade, even though the reviews from those I trust come with an Oy factor.  (Digitally scrubbed till hell wouldn't have it again.)

Hmm.  Music-wise and other-movie-wise, don't know yet.  But I'm ripe for a good binge.

Did I report watching EXECUTIVE KOALA a couple of weeks ago?  Can't remember if I did.  For kitsch/novelty/weird Japanese cinema, this can't be beat -- except by HOUSE, an absolute favorite.

Happy Friday, all,

It's kinda the TOD, but it's in an online player:
Anyone who is a fan of Jason Robert Brown and wants a sneak preview of the new "Bridges of Madison County" cast recording can find it here:
http://popwatch.ew.com/2014/04/11/bridges-of-madison-county-original-cast-recording-listen/

It seems like the entire album here. I'm listening now, on about the 6th track of 20, and it sounds pretty gorgeous. Enjoy!   :D

"It wasn’t that there was that much actual meat in the sandwich, because there wasn’t – but with the lettuce, tomato and the HUGE bun, you couldn’t actually eat it as a sandwich.  I had to cut it up and eat it in little bits."

O.M.G.

Lettuce?  Tomato?  HUGE bun?  These words don't even belong in the same zip code with a Sloppy Joe.

I don't know from Fred 62, but it sounds like the perfect example of a place that has chosen chef-izing basic, delicious comfort foods, over just presenting them competently and well.  Get out while you can, BK!

Topic of the Day:

Streaming on my work computer:  The Bridges of Madison County ;)

In my CD player (after "Bridges"):  the original Broadway cast recording of "Big Fish."

That's it for now.

Finally out of bed.  I'm not sure how much sleep I actually got - allergies bothering me, but maybe I got eight in there somewhere.

Thank you. I was just getting ready to post that myself. Listening to the first song, "Temporarily Lost," and it's not as good as the ones they've been highlighting.

Going tonight to hear Eric Whitacre (the American choral maven) conduct the Minnesota Orchestra and the Minneapolis Chorale in a program of his own works.

Well, I gave it a listen, the Bridges, that is, which is free today, in case anyone wants to listen. Did everyone know that? Free. Today. Listen.

Well, IMHO, when it's good, which is more than half of the time, it's really enjoyable. Soaring melodies, plenty of ripe and welcome passion. When it's not, as when Kelli drops the accent midway through a phrase (and she pronounces her "th"s far better than anyone from a foreign country I've ever heard), or when a song just doesn't build or land, then it barely reaches OK.
