Back home, and glad to be able to get back on the site -- which I wasn't able to do for at least an hour.

"The Merry Widow" concert at Trinity was TOTALLY charming.  I loved every bit of it, and I will eat up the webcast later on.  And this had crazy rehearsal challenges?  Holy cow, it was wonderful.  And DR Elmore needn't feel that he's too close to it to judge.

I has spoken.

I checked my recordings, and I must have given away the Schwarzkopf some time ago, but I've got the Kirsten/Rounseville and the Della Casa/Reardon.  But you know what?  Right now I just want to savor the Trinity one.  And if I can get some computer software to, um, archive at least the audio for educational purposes, I will do that as well.

DR Elmore:  I don't have a score and meant to ask what they performed from.  I thought I saw what looked like a Dover edition in someone's (Rob Berman's?) hands.  Is there any distinction between editions?  I don't know what's out there.

I thought you were asking about recordings! I'm sorry.  Yes, we were using the Dover reprint of the 1907 Chappell score from London and Broadway. There are a couple of up-to-date ones in English, one from Hal Leonard with a good Sheldon Harnick translation for City Opera and  couple of British ones. These scores, like the Reardon-Della Casa recording, have good English translations that are more faithful to the naughtiness of the original German libretto. The 1907 score, which is the basis for the recordings by Kitty Carlisle and the Kirsten-Rounseville, is awfully bowdlerized - sometimes the meanings are deliberately obscured - and sometimes assigns the music to different characters.

The two note-for-note complete recordings are these, the Stolz with Gueden n 2 CDs, and the John Eliot Gardiner, which fits it all on one.

Watching Citizen Kane on TCM. Not sure I'll be awake for the whole thing so I'm recording it.

Chas, making an audio recording from a video is exceedingly easy...for those in the know.

This was one of those perfect days to be in the city, the kind you often get in spring and fall -- sunny, warm enough but brisk, totally comfortable.  I got down there with some time to spare so walked around the Battery, which was great.  Afterwards, I walked north quite a ways before finally taking the subway the rest of the way to Grand Central.  This, in addition to a lovely concert, seeing DR Elmore, meeting his adopted son and the wonderful cast and other friends, made for one of those perfect days in the Apple.

BTW, One World Trade Center is impressive as all hell when seen in person.  Photos never much did it for me, but even from a couple of blocks away ..... wow.

Speaking of which, I do have some photographic evidence.  Not of the concert, however, sorry about that!

DR Elmore, I was talking about recordings, no problem there.  What I also meant to ask, but didn't, was about the scores.

I was really happy Ben Davis showed up; he was supposed to be Danilo today, but he had to cancel. I'm looking forward to his KISS ME KATE performance coming up with John Wilson at the Proms. He's one of my favorite people.  I was happy Joshie was there, because he's under the gun with BRIGADOON for the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, and I want it to go well for him.

As for the cast, I think Sara Jean can do no wrong at all. I adore her. Her voice is like a silver bell and her pitch is so good.

I wish there were a full English recording of the score, but there is a wonderful one of the French translation, and I'm quite fond of it. I had also forgotten that the Walberg recording in German is the complete score, too.

I suspect this is the only "Merry widow" DR MBarnum would care for!  It might get his nose out of the Dick and Jane stories.

I do love Meggie. We giggle together too much at times, and we seem to bring out the naughtiness in each other. I had never met Alex before Tuesday. I had seen him in the dreadful John Doyle SWEENEY TODD, and he plays a mean trumpet. He's a smart performer and his performance just  blossomed in two days. I was impressed. Very.

I was surprised to learn there were only 17 episodes.

Billie Hayes was the best thing about this show looking back at it

Regarding the TOD.  Do you mean shows like THUNDERBIRDS as in puppets, strictly for children, or just the shows we loved as children?

I can't think of a single show that had puppets that I liked & I have no memory of THUNDERBIRDS.

Possibly the only shows truly for children I loved were THE MICKY MOUSE CLUB & RIN TIN TIN.

I must not forget DAVY CROCKET though I'm sure adults were also watching this one. I loved Fess Parker as Davy

Looking at other responses, I agree with:
SUPERMAN
LONE RANGER
FURY

Was THE RIFLEMAN mentioned?

I mustn't forget THE LAWMAN though, as DR MBarnum knows, it was for Peter Brown that I loved this one.

I went through life somehow never even knowing about THUNDERBIRDS, but I took a chance and bought the Blu-ray.  Haven't watched yet, will do so soon.

I have mercifully repressed, forgotten, or rejected most of my childhood so I have next to no memory of TV in my childhood beyond Milton Berle, Ed Wynn, and Kukla, Fran and Ollie.

My project, which was put together this week, mostly yesterday, came off very well today and I now have one less thing to think about.

Jack said it would happen that way. It was written in the stars.

Excellent news.

Oh BK, sorry to hear that the bad business is continuing. What the heck is this person(s) trying to accomplish?

It is, quite simply a witch-hunt on the part of the school and the district and they will rue the day they ever began handling it in the way they have, which, to my mind, is not only illegal but a violation of just about every human right there is.

I hope you hunt them right back.
