July 19 is the 25th anniversary of the crash of United Flight 232 in Sioux City. There's going to be a three day commemoration/memorial/what have we learned since then event. If you don't remember it's the airplane that seemed to cartwheel down the runway. 112 died but 184 survived. A lot of the credit for that was given to the preparedness of our emergency services here who had done a drill 2 years earlier of a plane crash in almost the same place. I've been invited to a reception where the flight crew will be present.
Other than one flight attendant who died in the crash and one of the flight crew who died a couple years ago, they are all expected to be here, as are many of the survivors. They have a 25th reunion facebook page and it's been very interesting to see how many want to come back to Sioux City.
