Sunday afternoon greetings!  We joined Rob and Mary Linda at their church today, then went to IKEA for lunch and shopping.  We brought home a new sink, vanity, and medicine cabinet for the upstairs bathroom, which they are now assembling.  Tomorrow we'll call the plumber about installing the sink and the electrician for work that needs to be done all over the house.  Oh, and I have to start looking for new flooring for the upstairs bath.

Obviously you haven't done anything with the upstairs in a long time ;)

We went to the quaint little town of Jacksonville for an early lunch.  We walked around a little and I picked up some Walla Walla sweet onion dressing.  On the way home we did a couple of errands that were convenient.

I was all out of my Nielsen-Massey Madagascar bourbon vanilla.  A gourmet shop in Jacksonville said they sold it under their own label so I didn't order any on line.

The shop had a different brand of Madagascar, not bourbon, vanilla.  The owner, who is apparently a chef that studied at Cordon Bleu in Paris said they are basically the same & the "bourbon" is a marketing gimmick.  I had just enough left in the old bottle to smell and they don't smell the same.

Does anyone know the difference?

A very long time, DR Jane.  We've never done anything to the bathroom besides clean it once in a while.  From 2000 on, the upstairs was pretty much Rob's domain and a lot of wear and tear ensued during those teen years.

Thanks, DR Jane.  It's not just the upstairs that's getting attention.  Since we're having the electrician here anyway, we bought new kitchen light fixtures to replace the '70s lovelies that the previous owner installed.  I'm very excited!

Well, I really loved Side Show.   Apparently it's very different from the Broadway version.  The leads, Erin Davie and Emily Padgett were really terrific, with other standouts such as David St. Louis and Ryan Silverman.

I'm going to see Side Show at the Kennedy Center today.   It got a great review in the Post.  I'm really looking forward to it!

Have fun, DR KevinH!  The New York Times was mostly complimentary, as well:

I went out to my old Volvo today, which was parked across the street, to find that the driver's side mirror was badly damaged. I suspect vandalism. I can't tell you how many times I've seem damage on parked cars in my 'hood--always on the street side. Most annoying.

About two weeks ago, I was parking on a public street, when a woman had a fit that I was parking in front of what I presume to be her house. She was shooing me away in the most obnoxious manner. I rolled down my window. She "asked" (read "demanded") that I park elsewhere, saying that she "had to move the bike," as if that would explain everything. I then parked in front of her neighbor's house, as she "requested." When I returned to my car about twenty minutes later I found that someone had whacked the passenger side mirror. Fortunately, I was able to snap it back into place and no damage was done.

What is wrong with people??

Been busy with work, which is wonderful.  The work for a client with 12 companies needed to be done, and the issues involved have been really interesting.

Glad to hear it, Fred. Hope it continues for you.

Well, DR Jeanne, I'm hoping that, once we get the kids settled, I can keep up the momentum.  I'd like to replace the kitchen countertops and get the utility closet whipped into shape.

I love my granite countertops, except for the cleaner.  I'm allergic to the cleaner so Keith does it.

I don't want to spend that much money...

I haven't checked prices recently, but I had Corian in my last house and was quite happy with it. It was quite durable and I could clean it with Bon Ami, my favorite cleanser, or use another nontoxic cleaner. After twenty years it still looked almost new.

I'd like my utility closet to get whipped into shape, too. In my version the broom, Swiffer, and vacuum all become animated and clean while I sleep.
