DR JRand63, there's no storm cellar?

After seven hours, I got the damned section on the Battle of the Marne down to about 480 words. I am waiting for the Man from Philadelphia to complain about the word count. I'm counting every word I will throw his direction.

I honestly believe none of it is necessary in notes on ROBERTA, and this is why he drives me up the wall. I did find one episode in the battle on September 7,1914, both moving and funny. The Marne is a tributary of the Seine, and the battle took place close to Paris since the Germans were trying to take the City. The German forces were close to breaking through General Maunoury's French forces. They were only saved by the arrival of 6,000 French reserve infantry troops ferried from Paris in six hundred taxicabs.

You know, I'd intended to purchase RED GOLD to try out the Kindle app on my Android -- then it was reported to be formatted wrong, then it was fixed, and then I forgot to do it.  And I still haven't tried that damned app.  At all.  So, what the heck, now I shall.

Now I can read books Keith has purchased.  Currently he is reading a book Bryan recommended, "The Man in the High Castle" by Philip K Dick.  So far Keith is enjoying it.  I won't read it until he is done in case we run into the same problem we had with the B&N app, the bookmark kept changing depending who had read the book last.  That didn't work very well.

Yesterday, I wrote:

Well, I'm off.  Tomorrow night, Theater Artists Olympia is having a movie night!  We're going to show "Bucket of Blood" and "The Brain That Wouldn't Die."  Tonight, we're going to test everything.  I have a couple of microwave ovens that we will use to make popcorn to sell, and we want to make sure that they don't trip the circuit breakers.  And we want to make sure that the movies look good on our newly made screen. :D

Be back later!

Well, it turns out that the extra microwave oven that I had (it was donated for a future TAO garage/yard sale that hasn't happened yet) did NOT have the glass turntable and plastic-wheely-ring-support-thing.  It also turns out that the glass turntable and plastic-wheely-ring-support-thing from my microwave oven fit the other one, so we decided to use that instead of mine because it's easier to program.  We also made popcorn in several different ways and think that a couple of them will work.

Do they still sell Jiffy Pop in those aluminum cookers?  I remember my mom used to buy them.  Since I don't eat popcorn, I don't know what is available  and what is ancient history.

Chas, let us know if it worked and was the good version.

Works fine, and there's certainly no problem with the way it displays.  The Droid app is pretty rudimentary, but it downloaded in no time and I figured out the basic navigation.  Fonts, coverage on page, etc., it all looks very good to these eyes.

My brother just returned from visiting his daughter in NY.  They saw "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder" which my brother is now raving about.  Did anyone see this?  A "search" didn't show any comments.

And on that note (G#), I must be off.  I got a call asking if I could get some candy bars to sell at tonight's Movie Night at The Midnight Sun.  I have a Costco card, so I can and will.  Then, it's off to Movie Night at The Midnight Sun!

Be back later!

DR Jane--I saw it twice and loved it!  I'm pretty sure I mentioned it.   One actor, Jefferson Mays, plays 8 characters.  And the other lead, Bryce Pinkham, is great too as are the supporting cast members, including Jane Carr, who memorably played Mary MacGregor in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.    I can't recommend it highly enough!

I am tired. I just got back from niece's first summer swim meet. Luckily yesterday they took the good swimmer out of my niece's race. So they swam relay together. And the other girl swam breast and butterfly and my niece swam front crawl and back stroke.  There were really no good 8 and under girls from the other pool. So both girls easily won all of their races.

Hey, Sing, I've been talking to one of my sisters and I also saw reports on the news this morning before I came in the office. I know you said you're on a hill but I hope things are OK with you flood-wise! My sister said that MN is about to have the wettest June on record. The Mississippi River looks pretty wild. She's in North Minneapolis and I don't think she's in any danger of flooding but you never can tell.

Yes, SandBag, the news reports from Minnesota look pretty frightening.  I hope you and hubby remain safe.

Actually I just googled it and KFC is still giving the girl the money, which I think is a lovely thing for them to do.  They unfortunately got a ton of bad publicity and I think this generosity will go a long way.

Actually the KFC contribution is $30,000.  The real question is whether she will get the other $135,000 00.

I feel especially bad for the farmers - some of their fields are simply under water.

I have two major health issues. One involving a biopsy and other involving a possible stomach operation

Health vibes to DR Mike!
