Butterfield's was a regular haunt of mine in the 70s - best cream of mushroom soup EVER.

The Hamlet news of new owners and reopening came in the Photos of Los Angeles thread, where one person had called the restaurant and was told that by the manager, and another person, who, I believe, worked there, corroborated it.

I know it's a unique thing, but perhaps one of the people reporting this on the actual news sites, might have actually picked up the phone and found out for themselves, but that's not the way it works anymore, I'm afraid.

I am going to a party later.  I plan to eat, drink, and be Mary, Marry, Merry.

The best part is that the party is right next door, so - an easy commute.

DR TCB, the same thing happened in 1980 with the Central Park production of The Pirates of Penzance. I was leery going into it, and fell in love with it. Sawit twice in the Park and twice on Broadway. Go figure!

I think ROBERTA's going to be good. After listening a couple of times to it today, I credit the HHW vibes and support for it and the ceiling repair for taking what was okay, maybe a little more than passable, after May's mix to something really special. I'm very grateful.

I loved the production of PIRATES when it went to Broadway.  I think it had the same cast.

The Berkshire Record Outlet was selling the DVD of the park production, not the movie, for $4.99. That's the one with Patricia Routledge instead of Angela Lansbury. BerkshireRecordOutlet.com.

It was Patricia Routledge (in the park) and Estelle Parsons (on Broadway). Angela was in the filmed version of that production.

Linda Ronstadt starred as Mabel, Rex Smith as Frederic, Kevin Kline as the Pirate King, Patricia Routledge as Ruth (replaced by Estelle Parsons for the Broadway transfer), George Rose as the Major-General, and Tony Azito as the Sergeant of Police. Kline won a Tony Award for his performance. Smith won a Theatre World Award. The Papp production was turned into a film in 1983, with the original Broadway principal cast reprising their roles, except that Angela Lansbury replaced Estelle Parsons as Ruth. The minor roles used British actors miming to their Broadway counterparts. The film has been shown occasionally on television. Another film based loosely on the opera and inspired by the success of the Papp version, The Pirate Movie, was released during the Broadway run.
