Could hardly believe it when I picked up a voicemail from none other than DR vixmom in the parking lot at Stew Leonard's this evening.

What is this world coming to, anyway?

Definitely announcing two titles on Monday, although one of them is not what was originally planned - that one will follow two weeks later, but the one that is substituted, which we got approval on within ten minutes, is really going to appeal to denizens of this here site - the first ever official and complete release of a film musical and a rare one at that.  In fact, if you read today's notes you might just be able to figure out which it is.

Are we writing our guesses on a slip of paper and putting them into a hat?

I've enjoyed reading Elaine Stritch anecdotes and watching clips of her.

Loved Bill Daily on Newhart and I Dream of Jeannie. The jazz analogy is really accurate. He had his own rhythms and they were funny.

Yes, I also thought he was great on Newhart.

Yesterday's TOD:

The best Italian food I've had was in Quebec. It's impossible to get a bad meal in Quebec.

When I was growing up a neighbor family, who were Italian, introduced me to Zito's, which was on Pico Blvd near Veteran. I LOVED their romaine salad with the vinegary dressing. I liked their pasta, too. Sadly, Zito's is no more.

If anyone is interested in a somewhat DOWNTON ABBEY-like series, try GRAND HOTEL. It's a Spanish production and not bad, IMO. Available on Netflix streaming.

DR Dan, have you ever tried homeopathy? There are many excellent remedies and the pills are quite tiny. Natrum Muriaticum is a common remedy for depression. You can probably find a 30C potency at Whole Foods or other health food store for under $10.

Hi, Kevin! How's DC weather? (Need I ask?)

Actually, it's been very nice the last few days.  Low humidity and in the low 80's. Very odd for July!

Thank you DR Jeanne for the kind words and suggestion.  I may give that homeopathic item a try.

I would like to get in touch with Mr. Daily, just to thank him for his work through the years.  According to Wikipedia, he resides near Albuquerque, NM.

I'd also like to thank Alan Young (Mr. Ed's Wilbur).  They both seem like genuinely good people.  I don't think that that's an act.

A friend brought by a copy of "Jodorowsky's DUNE" which is a very well done documentary as BK said in his previous notes.  I find Mr. Jodorowsky extremely interesting as I have never seen any of his movies, just clips and trailers.  It's great to see someone remain so vital and vigorous in the autumn of their years.  If I ever get to my 80s, I would like to be as active and intelligent as he is.  What a loss that he could not get his DUNE made.  The documentary shows that elements of his proposed film (Frank Herbert apparently was on board) live on in other SF/Fantasy films from 1975 onward.  As much as I have liked about half of David Lynch's oeuvre, his DUNE, even without the studio interference, is pretty awful, no matter the apologists' arguments.

I also started to watch Jodorowsky's "The Holy Mountain" which is quite strange yet visually striking.  So far, I think it's more performance art than plot.

Foods that should never go down a garbage disposal:
http://www.idreamofclean.net/7-foods-that-should-never-go-in-the-garbage-disposal/

I didn't know about eggs, rice or pasta.  I always tell Keith not to do carrot peels or the hard ends.  As I've mentioned, with this drought barely anything goes into it so not to waste water.

I've always heard that chicken bones help to sharpen the blades. I don't put them down that often but do every once in a while

Tonight I went to a community discussion on Remembering Flight 232 the 25th anniversary of the plane crash here.  It was really quite fascinating.  There is clearly a close bond between the survivors and the flight crew and those who helped them.  Most of them have been back for a number of anniversaries and although there are occasional tears there are a lot of smiles and laughs and gratitude toward the crew and the community for the response.  I feel kind of like I don't belong or I'm watching someone else's reunion, but the group is very welcoming.

I gave blood for the 232 drive yesterday, and plan to attend more of the event tomorrow.
