DR George, excellent news on the concert.

Thanks, Jane!

DR Jane do you swim with ear plugs?  I often cut ear plugs in half and use half an ear plug with a bathing cap when i swim. I don't like the feel of water in my ears.  Not sure what my niece will do in the future.  She's been swimming a lot and has never had this problem (it is very common). The swim meet should be interesting tonight especially the girls 8 and under relay (as my niece and the best swimmer won't be there).  so they will be down two girls. But i think they have 4 others who could potentially do alright.

I tried ear plugs for awhile and didn't like them.  Once I stopped doing the sidestroke I really didn't have a problem.  I also take breaks in the shallow end and tilt my head plus I dry my ears when I get out of the water & use a gentle hair dryer once I'm home.  Last week I used a bathing cap for long hair I & found it tolerable, however, more water got into my ears.  I will try your method of cutting the plugs in half.  You are referring to silicone plugs?

Never found all I was looking for, so I'll alert the Library of Congress. The McGlinnventory is out of Toyland, and I am heading back uptown.

I hope they find your missing items, or you find them at home ;)

I have ordered myself a tomato press.  I'm gonna puree some of the fabulous organic tomatoes I can get in a local market.

I need some fresh tomato sauce!

Sounds good.

They turn walking into TOTAL BODY EXERCISE, dontcha know.

I am one of the few people in my hiking group who doesn't use a pole.  Most only use one those.  Sometimes I borrow one to get down a steep slippery trail or to cross a stream on slippery rocks without falling .

Apparently walking poles are a "thing" now.

I have seen quite a few folks trekking around with them on city sidewalks.

maybe they miss the snow.

I can understand using them for hiking, DR Jane. It just looks a little odd on a city sidewalk. But I guess it does help tone, and who am I to criticize people who are exercising at all? It's all good.

Richard has a couple of sets of Exerstriders.  Someone always wants to talk to him about them when they see them in use.

I looked them up.   They don't look too practical for hiking.  The poles my friend's use are like ski poles that can be dug into the ground.

A few people have the collapsible kind that can hook onto a carbine.  I would get one of those if they collapsed small enough for me to hang from my belt loop without hurting myself.

The bottoms of the Exerstriders look more sensible for street walking.

Years ago when I first began to see people walking with poles, not hikers, they were people who wanted to stay in shape for cross country skiing.

Talked to my folks. They are both fine. This is the first time in 59 years that they've ever been in an accident, so it never occurred to them that their insurance might cover a rental car. Hopefully they've found out by now.

59 years is a long time.  I've been hit too many times and consider them very lucky.  I never inquired into a rental but I was ok without one.

DR John you didn't mention how your parent's feel.

They both feel fine. As a precaution, Mom took a long hot bath last night, which I'm sure helped her nerves as much as anything. And she sounded good.

Thank you for asking.

Too many damn telephonic conversations this morning.  I just did a mile-and-a-half jog - too hot to do more than that.

Smart move.  I'm sure it helped.  I'm glad they are both doing well.

If people can walk around carrying firearms, what are a few walking sticks going to matter?
