I will be scarce this evening; we are invited to dinner at a friend's home. We are invited WITH the dog; we are hoping that he will get along with the resident black lab, Cooper. I will try to remember to try to take a photo.
looking forward to the photographic evidence

Intermission is almost over.  It's going well.  I was standing out front for a few moments and I saw a couple of cars leave.  Their loss...and there are no refunds. ;)

I just hope it wasn't the actors

I spent the afternoon watching this. It has moments, and a really good cast, but i really hated the main character, Kyle Cyandler's cameo was really wnderful and I did noy recognize Jennifer Jason Leigh at all.

so you did not consider it a pure gem and a perfect movie?

I'm glad you liked Mr. Confidential, DR elmore.     I thought about going to NYC for that and some other shows but didn't end up going.   I see there's talk of it being done again (maybe for Broadway?)  That would be great for Kevin Spirtas!

I am enjoying watching  The Commonwealth games. But the coverage has been less than stellar. Usually Canada has 24/7 coverage. Now we have either 1 or 2 hours a day.  They do have pretty good coverage on youtube. I was able to see a lot of swimming there.

I'll make this prediction right now - Mr. Confidential will never be on Broadway, and I think I'd be safe to say it will never even be off-Broadway.  And I don't need to see it to make that prediction.

Forgive me for being brain dead, but has anyone here mentioned seeing the Blue-Ray version of the original THE TIME MACHINE.  I was set to order the film from Amazon, but I started reading the comments and reviews that seem to insist that there is no difference between the previous DVD and the Blue-Ray version.  Anyone know?

Back from Bye Bye Birdie - I'm not going to be mean in the notes, but I am here to tell you that most of it was not very good.  Everyone seems to love the choreography, which is very high energy and some of it is certainly appealing.  But, as any great choreographer will tell you, it's just as important to know when NOT to choreograph as when TO choreograph.  Every word, every beat had a step - too much until you read that the guy is the assistant to Patti Columbo, who is also a very busy choreographer.  The book scenes were not well directed or perhaps not directed at all.  The Rosie was very good because she got the humor and played it, so that was nice.  The Birdie was awful - just terrible casting, a little Justin Bieber-type petulant runt - that may seem like a funny idea, but it's not funny for Bye Bye Birdie because it's nothing like the character in the show.  Kim was too old (she certainly looked older than Birdie), the mother was okay, Jim Bullock was channeling Mr. Lynde and ad-libbing when he should not have been because a) the ad-libs weren't that funny, b) they took us out of the show, and c) the show is long enough without these sorts of additions.  They added the revival song for the mother, which may be an okay song, but stops the show dead just when it shouldn't stop.  They also added the movie's title song for some young kids at the top of act two - again, if you're going to add ten minutes to an already long act two, then you'd better cut ten minutes elsewhere.

The real problem is everyone thinks Bye Bye Birdie is a piece of cake.  That would be incorrect.  You have to cast it perfectly and you have to pace it perfectly, and you have to really understand the humor and how it must be played.  We were in that theater for over three hours - fifteen minutes of which was a fund-raising curtain speech, and a fifteen minute intermission.  I think the show itself must have run over two hours and forty-five minutes.

I had one of those CPK 600 calorie meals - salmon and some corn thing.  I'm going to jog in a few minutes which will net my calorie intake down to four hundred calories, so I'm definitely eating some chicken in a biskit crackers, some salami and some fruit.

While scanning the obituaries this morning, looking for my name; I came across this unusual opening to this obit..  (I changed the man's name to John Doe.)

John Doe 1923 - 2014 John Doe was born 90 years ago on November 4, 1923 in Centerville, Iowa. His mother Beatrice preceded him in death

If this man was 90 years old, wouldn't it go without saying that mom had already passed away.  And are we to believe that dad is still with us?

Greetings, all!  Just signing on for the first time in a few days. I hope everyone has had a good weekend.

BK, Thanks for the Birdie review. I felt bad about not going, but I had a feeling it wasn't going to be wonderful. I'm only sorry for your sake that it was as bad as it was. I so agree about things that are over-choreographed. I've been in that position of having to do that choreography, and Oy! is all I can say.

Hmmm, I saw your comment on Mr. Confidential. I actually did three songs on the original demo recordings for that show, and they asked me to do the Fringe performances, but the little money involved made it near impossible to do. And I've not seen the script, so it's hard for me to say more about it.

We have a woman at my church who was 90 and her mother was still alive.

I see Chickin in a Biskit  all the time   in my grocer's cracker aisle  but I don't think I have ever tasted one-

I just may have to go to the grocer and remedy that situation

I used to like them but they are too salty for me these days

I think a typical salsa verde is not hot or spicy.

Are the white things seeds from the tomatillos?

Damn it to hell, where is DR John G. when we need him?

The white things are seeds from tomatillos. It an he mild or spicy depending on how many serranos you put in the sauce.
