I thought of something for the TOD yesterday.

After I saw a movie on tv, I got a book from the library titled 1984.....it was most interesting....although it was very different from the movie.....

And I didn't think 1984 would ever come.....now it has come...and GONE.

With my luck, the LoC won't finish the McGlinn collection for another 10 years.
.  Maybe they could hire you for that little job

You think the government has any money? Oy!

Good afternoon. I have had a day in which I have accomplished quite a bit but it has felt like I have not. I still have more to do.

Over on BookFace, we are starting to see a bit of evidence of DR Ginny's arrival in Paris.

Here's a recipe from a 1954 cookbook that sounds like something you'd serve to guests you hated:

Bouillon on the Rocks
Pour undiluted canned beef bouillon over crushed ice. Serve as appetizer. May be seasoned with lemon juice, etc., to suit your taste.

There is, on Facebook, a person of such raging ego the likes of which I have never seen in my life.  Every post is about himself and his brilliance and then he goes off on tears about things and says that if you don't like it he's happy to block you - in other words, don't dare criticize anything he posts.  Well, my friend, it's Facebook and Facebook is not your personal toy, even though you think it is.  People have just become babbling idiots.  So, today he does a screed about yet another Facebook meme that's being shared relentlessly - a Meryl Streep quote about what she has no patience for anymore.  He calls Miss Streep to task, calls her arrogant and a lot of other nasty things.  Only guess what?  She did not say it.  The quote is from some book by some guy.  I was not the first to point it out in the responses, but everyone ignores the fact she didn't say it and agrees with him (or not).  I finally came in and said he really should apologize for the name-calling, since she is not the author of the quote.  He, of course, has left the room, but his pals aren't happy that I think he should apologize.  But you know what?  When you're wrong, be a human being and say "Oops, made a mistake.  I still stand by what I said in terms of the content of the quote, but am sorry I went after the wrong person."  That's what a human being would do.  But today no one does that simple thing.  You want to talk about arrogance?  This guy's arrogance knows no bounds, I'm afraid.  If he does end up blocking me, at least I won't have to see this stuff anymore.  And on it goes, over and over again.

And then there's the whole Joan Rivers thing.  All the stuff being printed in the papers about "cautiously optimistic" and "small steps to recovery" all from unnamed sources.  You will remember what I posted here several days ago - about what I heard (admittedly second hand) about what really happened.  I think, in the end, when the truth comes out you will find that it's exactly what I posted here.  They're already talking about lawsuits and all the daughter is actually saying is that Miss Rivers is still on life support.  No new news there.  They've just brought her out of her medically induced coma.

I assure you my cousin who is a co-producer, and the Voice (which I didn't know until DR Jennifer told me) does know where "Big Brother" comes from.

I'm picky. I always wanted a Selectric typewriter. Never got one. Moved on to computers.

The BIG BROTHER show makes me happy  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  Not sad  :-\  :-\   :-\

This is the first year that I have liked every one of the contestants! I mean that there were no contestants I disliked...there are/were some I didn't care all that much about, but I didn't dislike any of them. I was just not sad when they got voted out.

DR George do you like your ?ex-brother-in-law?  It is interesting the connections we see on FB.

We no longer interact.  He's very religiously conservative, and when his daughter (my niece) came out to him, all he could do was quote his bible and say how it's not god's plan and all that.  He couldn't just show any support.  She's written him off, so there's really no need for me to see or be around him.  He does have another daughter with his current (third) wife (they've been together for close to 20 years) and my niece is fairly close to her (her half-sister, not her father's wife), but she avoids her dad unless it's absolutely necessary to be around him.
