Last Thanksgiving we went to a movie before going to dinner at Elinor's house.  Since we rarely go to a movie it was a treat for us.

Seventy-nine years ago today the Cole Porter-Moss Hart musical Jubilee opened on Broadway.

My absolute favorite show. My first choice for a time machine visit.

Is the individual who was "the problem" with AND THE WORLD GOES ROUND going to be at the launch party?

Yes, the individual will - it's actually a little more complicated than that :)  And no, can't identify the individual at least as long as the individual and company are playing nice.

So, I saw Gone Girl.  I kind of was sort of with it for the first half, then the second half began and I just became increasingly more irritated.  The tone veers wildly and it's like you've been led down the garden path by taking the first half seriously - suddenly we're in black comedy and satire land and it may have worked as a literary device, but it sure doesn't work with the Mr. Fincher's direction, a couple of incredibly bad casting choices, a score that is literally wall to wall aural wallpaper and therefore, like the film, becomes mind-numbing, and plot turns that just get sillier and sillier until the completely unsatisfying ending.  The completely full house at the DGA just sat there at the end of the film - no applause, just silence and then everyone just got up and left.  I can't imagine normal audiences will react any differently.  I've heard great things about the book, but maybe it all works in that world - the ridiculously overdone dialogue that no human being would ever speak, and plot points that may have been easily disguised in the book so as not to make you question them, but in a film just have you going, what?

I went to Gelson's and got some snacks and ate them all and I'm on my second listen of one of the two new masters - it should have been Sandy, but instead it was the soundtrack.  It's great, but I want to hear Sandy!

I went to Gone Girl tonight too. I was also very unsatisfied with the ending. I kept thinking it was a good idea that just kind of didn't quite make it.  I'm curious which characters you thought were miscast. I can think of a couple.

I have  the book but never read it.  I think I'll read it now to see if I like it any better.

I liked The Judge much better than Gone Girl.  I didn't hate Gone Girl, just wanted more from it

Saturday night my friends had their last movie night of the year.  We watched Slap Shot outside.  It was pretty cold, but they had a fire in an outdoor fireplace and one in a weber grill to keep us warm. And we had 4 kinds of soup to eat.  It was a lot of fun.

Today we had out All America Concert Band concert.  I was great fun.  One of my friends was there.  It really is nice to have a friend in the audience.

Tomorrow is Columbus Day.  We're closing the office, but I may go in and work   OR I may finally finish the room upstairs that I started about two and a  half years ago.  I really only have to scrub the wallpaper paste off of one wall and paint two walls.  It would be doable in a day.

I've been hungry for turkey and have a Jenni-O turkey roast in the freezer, so maybe I'll make a turkey dinner for Canadian Thanksgiving :)

Hmmm then I could hang the good shades I bought that have been in a box for over two years.  I've been hanging out in this room more lately, especially in the evening, so it's time to have all the walls the same color, lol

Not really sure why I've been E and T.  I did spend a lot of last week practicing for the concert and just doing things.

We used to always go to a movie on Thanksgiving night and Christmas night.  We haven't done it in years, but it was a fun way to get out of the house and still be spending time together

I forgot what a fun movie Slap Shot is.  We especially enjoyed the 70s fashions, Paul Newman wore lots of plaid pants and a leather suit.  We did kind of go Ewwww when he was wearing the same underwear in two scenes that were several days apart in the movie.  (Patterned boxers)

The cats are all curled up sleeping.  They are much more content when we are all upstairs in the evening than they are when we are in the living room, not sure why
