I wish I'd been able to read BK's words about LOS ANGELES PLAYS ITSELF before I made the purchase and spent the hours watching it a few weeks ago. I'd never seen it, but its legend precedes it (oh, how it precedes it; just ask me how it precedes it and I will tell you how it precedes it), and I had been led to believe it was not to be missed. Now, as I think about it, I realize that none of those who led me to believe such a thing had ever lived in L.A.
For a while I enjoyed the clips and was amused at a few of the connections he was making...though I'd be hard put to tell you now what any of them were. But it started to get old, and the guy clearly wasn't approaching the subject from a viewpoint that made much sense to me. At the halfway point I took a break and looked forward to at least seeing some as yet unexplored clips in the second part. But whoo boy, does it then proceed to jump the shark. What a sad waste of opportunity, and what a sad misrepresentation on so many people's part in how this thing has been hyped over the years.
