François   ;D- however, JRand what you said is nice, and so are you. :)

François you made me think of the following lyrics.  I thought this song was great.  The year was 1966 and I identified with the words just a little bit too much.  ;D

They're coming to take me away, HA HA
They're coming to take me away, HO HO HEE HEE HA HA
To the funny farm
Where life is beautiful all the time
And I'll be happy to see
Those nice, young men
In their clean, white coats
And they're coming to take me away, Ha-haaa!

Always liked Betty Hutton!

On this clipping, she looks -- in my eyes!! -- like a young Shirley Booth!

Noel did your father receive credit for producing the series?  I don't understand how it ended his career.  What did your father do after he left the West Coast?

I don't quite understand it either...

I've no recollection of what credit my father received on Peter the Great.  It might have been "Executive in Charge of Production" or simply "for NBC Productions."

After moving back east, my father has held no paying job.  He managed to get himself elected to a school board, and he's written a number of opinion pieces and published a novel (which brought him no profit).  For a time, he did a little reporting for a free local weekly newspaper - that paid him $20 per article, I think.

The harder question is why he thought he'd never get another job in Hollywood.  As he explained it to me at the time, he was a certain age and had worked his way up to a certain salary level.  Similar-salaried jobs were going to younger people, and while he might be happy to work for half the dough, potential employers wouldn't believe he'd be happy to work for half the dough.  The scary part?  The "certain age" he was when he said all this...

I didn’t want that to be my last post.  ;D Our satellite was down and I couldn’t connect.

I’m a Betty Hutton fan-her energy was something else.

Noel, oh my-only 59!  I hope he was happy in the east coast.

Good night all.  No white coats here, I’m taking myself away. :D

Yes DR NOEL, very scary!

I think Betty's hair is very similar to Shirley's in that particular 1944 ad!

Wow!  A collie dog who was being held at the animal shelter in Indianapolis, got out of his cage and ran down the hall to alert a worker about some smoke and fire in the animal compound!

Betty Hutton.....no middle ground with her.

DRJANE did you see her interview with Robert Osborne a couple of years ago on TCM?  It was remarkable.  She is not completely delusional - but she is emotionally damaged and will never recover.

She said she started her frantic moving around when she was with the Vincent Lopez Orchestra and completely unsure of her singing talent.  She figured if she kept moving around, people would be distracted from her singing.  She said:  "I can't sing good, but I sure sing LOUD!"

For $634.52 you can buy a dress worn by Miss Betty Hutton in Incendiary Blonde!  She must have been a stunner in this color!

Written by Frank Loesser and sung by Miss Betty Hutton:

I wish I didn't love you so.
My love for you
Should have faded long ago.

I wish I didn't need your kiss.
Why must your kiss
Torture me as long as this.

I should be smiling by now
With some new tender friend.
Smiling by now
With my heart on the mend...

But when I try
Something in my heart says, "No.."
You're still there.
I wish I didn't love you so..............

She was always a very insecure person!

That used to drive Fred Astaire crazy, but then he did not have much patience with his partners, I believe!
Like BK, he was a perfectionist!

Time for MAD Tv.....I will return.

Here in France, it's just mad TV; one of the reasons i don't watch it!

We now get the French adaptation of that "Queer" "real" tv "gameshow"!

Welcome to the Americanization of Amélie (Poulain)! :D

Good grief! ::)

A good friend of mine was back from London this week where he saw Andrew Lloyd Webber's newest THE WOMAN IN WHITE. He liked it. He's not exactly an ALW fan and didn't think the music was as effective as the story being told. As for the score, he said it had the same tonal qualities as ASPECTS OF LOVE (which would make it a must-miss for me).

I was not highly impressed with the revised version of YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN. The revised arrangements on some of the original songs are ridiculous, losing the charm and simplicity of their meanings in a mess of choral enhancements. None of the new scenes, except one or two with the added Sally character, are especially noteworthy additions, and the first act especially just seemed to misfire in one segment after another.

Maybe this is a show whose time has come and gone. Slightly depressing for me because I can remember first seeing it and being filled with its charm and wonder. Very little of that was still present in this revised version. After seeing this, I had no doubt why it didn't succeed on Broadway with $90+ tickets.

Enjoyed FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT very much today, but darn if I didn't notice a continuity error early in the film. The pinkie ring that Joel McCrae is wearing before he gets in the cab and after he gets out of the cab is missing on his left hand while in the cab. Odd that I had never noticed this before.

Didn't have time to watch the documentary on the disc. I'll watch it tomorrow.
