Ginny, was exactly is an assisted living room?  Is it more like a room in a nrsing home, or is it still along the lines of a small apartment, with possibly their own furniture?  I thought I should ask now, since I will probably have forgotten by the time I move into one.

It's a health care facility, but not as intensive as skilled nursing.  Mom will have a decent sized private room with en suite bath.  Meals are in a nearby dining room and she will be checked on throughout the day.  The staff will administer her meds, including her Scotch.  She will have neither meds nor Scotch in her room.

She's going to have friends nearby, still able to drink scotch, her own private room, meals prepared for her, and people there to wait on her.....doesn't sound so bad to me :)   Glad she's ready to go, it makes all the difference in the world

We've been so fortunate that my mother, and Richard's, made their own decisions along these lines.  We've never been accused of "putting" them somewhere they didn't want to be.

You are lucky regarding this.

Yes, we are.  And we didn't have to take the car keys away from them, either!

My cousin wants to do that with his mother but it won't happen.  She was still driving well last year when I road with her.

I guess the only saving grace is that Ebonie did not suffer too long.

I was on public radio today. If you are interested, you can read the story (or hear the feature; I am featured in the audio version a little bit) here:

I put off having my yard cleaned up all fall.  I thought it was too late, but the weather got very nice and it's going to be in the mid 50s tomorrow, so I called a guy and he came over today.  His quote is really too high, but he's going to do it tomorrow and I know it's a lot of work.   There are a lot of leaves in the back yard and a fair amount of raccoon poop.  I think they are using the leaves as beds, so I'm getting rid of all the leaves and poop and hopefully can get rid of them too.   I've enjoyed feeding the birds, but just too many critters are making their way to my yard and the cats are going crazy

Something sprayed the sliding glass door, and may did they go into orbit. Both Ricky and Callie have big scratches on their noses.   Otherwise I think we made it through the storm

Tomorrow is the Little Yellow Dog auction.  It's a cute little scottie named Finnegan.  I don't generally like animals being auctioned, but the lowest I've seen one go for at this auction is $15,000.00.   Stoney went for $45000.00  the next week his owners were getting his health certificate so he could join them on their private jet to Vegas.

My vet takes care of the dogs and they told me generally the people keep coming back to them for care.   The past few years the previous dogs have come to the auction.  They all look happy, healthy and very spoiled

the AACB plays for this and frankly I'm not sure I'm up for it. It took me at least half a day to get with it today.  I'm still not feeling the greatest and Monday and Tuesday are going to be killer days.  Bad weather and a trip to Omaha for a hearing.  My client couldn't find another ride, so he's riding with me.   It will be good to practice my Spanish, but he's from El Salvador and I have a hard time understanding him.

George, I'm so sorry to hear about Ebonie. She made your job easier by relieving you of the big decision. I'm glad you were nearby when she died--even if it was just in the car. And you have a lovely photo of her to remember her by. RIP, DC Ebonie.

Back from a brilliantly wonderful dinner at Ruth's Chris Woodland Hills with the Saitaman gals, Karen (mom, Sami and Sarah.  I didn't think it was quite up to Beverly Hills, but the difference is so minor as to not be worth mentioning.   And yet, I mentioned it.  Go know.  I had a salad and my New York steak.  We all shared the lobster mac-and-cheese and lyonnaise potatoes, all incredible.  They brought Karen and I birthday desserts - some sort of cheesecake thing, very small.  Karen's birthday was two days after mine.  We all laughed and laughed and just when we thought we could laugh no more, we laughed again.  I am so full right now it isn't even funny.  And yet, I laughed again.

Enjoyed Singdaw's article. I didn't hear any of Sing's HHW side in the clip, though.  ;)

The location is one of the oddest malls ever.  It's half empty and like a ghost town.  Only the two restaurants had any kind of traffic - Ruth's Chris and Maggiano's.  They are, apparently, building a new mall to the north that will connect this one and the one way to the north, Topanga Plaza, all together, which will make it maybe the biggest mall in LA.

I bought mom Karen my favorite perfume - Givency Very Irresistible.  Sami grabbed it and sprayed a tiny bit on her wrist.  Not all perfumes work for all people, but Sami absolutely went nuts for the smell - she just loved it.  Which means mom will be sharing it with her two daughters.

We just had our first large donation to indiegogo - $1,000 - a friend of mine for over four decades and she gets to be in the program as an associate producer.  Very happy about that.

George, just read over my comments and I don't think I really expressed how much my heart goes out to you.  I do know the pain of losing a dearly loved cat. It was especially hard for me when I lost  Petey  after 15 years.  I still think of him and it's been over 13 years since I had to make the ultimate decision. I was working or out a lot when I had Petey and I have had a lot of guilt over not being with him as much as I could have been.  I read a little of that in your post but I hope you're not feeling the same way.  It has always been clear how much you loved Ebonie and I'm sure she knew it.  You really did give her a great life.  Hugs to you

I have to say while killing a few minutes before dinner, they had a little pet adoption store in the mall - every dog, all eight of them, was so adorable and so loving.
