Well, you've read the notes, the notes were paved with good intentions, and now it is time for you to post until the good-intentioned cows come home.

I must say that so far CARRY ON TEACHER is the funniest of the series I have seen so far.

I love the Hammer Films CARRY ON (HAUNTING?)with Jim Dale and Finella Fielding.

Were you thinking of this film although CARRY ON films were never released by Hammer

Good morning, all! My Mac Man arrives today; I really hope he can get my computer back up and running.  I'm praying', I'm praying' hard.

Yes, DR Michael Shayne, it is CARRY ON SCREAMING, which is a great parody of Hammer Films.

I got a call from my Mac Man around 8:00 last night. He should be here between 10 and noon.

Last night i watched THE FAMILY STONE, something I'd never seen before but it was on Entertainment Weekly's list of under-appreciated Christmas films. I liked it quite a lot.

Good morning, all.

At nine o' the clock last night I suddenly sneezed, and by ten I had a very light but noticeable scratchy throat.  I went to bed and had a pretty good solid sleep, but I still feel the effects of those things.  Not badly.  But they're there.  And that just isn't right.  Did I not have a cold just two months ago?  Why, yes, I did!  Just not right.  No sir.  I'm still hopeful I can fight this one off.

Coffee!

So, yesterday I played "It Might Be Fun," Sandy's collection of Kimmel songs, around four times as I chopped vegetables, made a lot of chicken stock, and ended up with a lot of chicken soup. Whay a delightful album!

I wrote an Amazon review, but I hate doing those; I much prefer reading them, not just for the comments on the item under review, but for what it tells me about the reviewer himself.

I had lunch with Lanny Meyers this summer, about two weeks before the recording, and he had told me that he was orchestrating two of BK's songs that I had scored earlier, "What Do I Do Now?" from the SHAKESPEARE ON BROADWAY recording, and the wonderful "Here On Earth" from the tea;lly glorious THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X. I was particularly curious to hear what he'd bone with them. So, I'll begin there.

I thought at times at Sandy reminded me of the late great Michelle Nicastro  in her rendition of "What Do I Do Now?", and I thought Lanny's chart was a lot of fun. It was nice to hear a different take on the number.

Now, with "Here On Earth," I'll start with me and the show in 2006; it was the last song I scored for the production because I felt it was as good a number as my favorite song from IT'S A BIRD, A PLANE . . ., Lois Lane's lament "Oh, how I wish I weren't in love with Superman." Both of these gentle character songs walk a fine line between the seriousness of the character and the silliness of the situation, and I wanted to get my head around the show and the band before I camped up the number or simply tarted it up.  What surprised me about Sandy's rendition is that it's not so funny out of the context of the show - occasional limes declare it's not a song for a pop 40 listening audience - and Lanny's easy chart supports it nicely.

To be catty, he had 35 players, and I had five or six!

Since I don't know BK's MO working with Lanny on this, I don't know how much input he had with intros and interludes, but there were spots in them - not in the vocal material - but in the accompaniments that reminded me of other writers.  I kept hearing "A Little Bit In Love" in the accompaniment to "I'm Here," which is really a gorgeous ballad, and some  Nino Rota in "Maybe Something More."  I really loved the intro to "It Doesn't Get Easier," which is really lovely.

There are also the wonderful trumpet in "Two Roads," a song that would have got for BK a Disney contract around 1968 since it's so good, reminiscent of a lot of the Sherman Brothers, but it still sounds like a BK tune to me, and the wonderful Broadway production number dance break in "Who Do I Have To Blank?"

And those are my thoughts on Lanny's contribution: always imaginative, mostly a bit wonderfully retro, and always so spot-on with the singer.

As to these songs, I know the writer very well after 20 years of fretting, fighting, and working together. He remains one of my best friends, and these songs with their gentleness, outrageous humor (only one on this album!), optimism, romance, and enormous heart will tell you more about the writer and his huge talent than I can.
