Today is the 130th birthday of Jerome Kern, who died far too young at the age of 60.

Take a moment and listen to one of his songs or scores today.

I have "Roberta" here at work.

She shall be listened to. :)

A little depressed today. I found out that the man who was the minister at my church when I moved to San Antonio has been moved this week to a facility for the care of Alzheimer's patients. He was very nice to me as a newcomer, and his family included me and number of other members in family gatherings over the years. It's been sad to see him in decline over the past year and to learn that his wife, a nurse, can no longer care for him.

He had been the first minister that the congregation had called back in 1985. We're gearing up to celebrate the church's 40th anniversary this spring and had hoped he'd be a part of the event.

I now doubt that I will ever see him again.

This is sad.  I'm sorry we won't likely make it to the celebration.

Back from a good and fun rehearsal - we finally had the full cast, which is so helpful.  I ended up doing the huge act two opener, which came out very well.  We're about fifteen pages or so, maybe less, from the end, but there's still three group numbers ahead.

I pulled a ton of stuff out of a cabinet this morning and then we left to do errands and I took a long walk while Keith worked out.  I really need to put it all away instead of stepping over it  ;D

It was really less than that where I live, DR Jane!  The schools were closed, nevertheless!

I guess the worst weather I've experienced was the Blizzard of '77 in Buffalo.  It was an authentic blizzard, with very high winds resulting in huge drifts.  My recollection is that we didn't see pavement for weeks.  We were driving on compacted snow.

Rehearsal was short and sweet as only three singers were with us today - one comes on Thursday, then everyone on Friday.

The news coverage of the "blizzard" was an all time nadir if such a thing is possible.  The apology is, perhaps, a first?  The people who went crazy buying "emergency" supplies for what was supposed to last twenty-four hours tops, should be ashamed of themselves, but alas, they aren't.

Had I been at home I would have been one of those stocking up on a least a week's worth of supplies. Living in an area where all the electric wires are above ground hung from telephone poles where there are lots of oak trees and maple trees with heavy limbs. I have seen too many instances over the years where a branch falls and takes out a transistor or a car slides on an icy road and takes down a pole and as a result a neighborhood loses electricity for days.  I remember in January 1996 when the stores couldn't open for days for lack of electricity and even if they could have the delivery trucks could not make it to them.   Weather can only be predicted to a point it is not an exact science and I would rather be over prepared than underprepared. So it was not 3 feet that fell "only" a foot.   Considering that less than 3 inches virtually paralyzed Georgia and South Carolina a year ago this week I think the warnings were within reason

Vixdad and I were back at nasa today where we lunched with astronaut Wendy Lawrence  then saw an IMAX film filmed by astronauts on the international space station then attended a lecture followed by a Q&A with Wendy Lawrence  then a trip around the Atlantis space shuttle exhibit. And we still haven't been to the astronaut hall of fame next door

The Vixter is still valiantly  trying to clear our three car driveway by herself. She said she was only able to clear enough to get vixdads car out so she took that to work today

She ended up being sent home because of lack of business as the roads are so icy no one is going out to dinner
