The stumble-through was pretty great save for a few too many lyric flubs all coming from the same two people.  They have to go home and really do their homework now.  But what melodies.  I also changed an arrangement to make it perkier and that really helped, then we're adding a mini-overture that actually happens towards the end of the show where we have one ballad too many - I thought it would be fun for our MD to do a little two-minute thing of all the wonderful Kern songs we didn't do.

We haven't been to a play in several years since we haven't had company that has wanted to go.  We could go on our own but we don't.

Two small planes collided, and crashed, in Alaska.  I'm only mentioning this because both pilots survived.  Nothing about passengers so I guess there weren't any.

Went to Gelson's and got some little bites foods - small amount of mac-and-cheese, some lobster salad, some chicken noodle soup, and four little drumette things.

When I was downstairs I stopped by the desk and made a preliminary inquiry about extending my stay if my Tuesday flight gets cancelled.  Not panicking yet, just thinking ahead...

They said there would be no problem.

Good idea.  Many schools have already been canceled for tomorrow.  I think you will be ok by Tuesday.  I have a friend there who has an extremely important doctor's appointment tomorrow.  I hope she can get there.

We are home, safe and sound, the car is unpacked and we have had our tea, called our respective parents to report our safe arrival home, caught up with the Vixter, and watched Downton Abbey and Grantchester

Some encouraging news on the weather front:  from my room I can, once again, see the tops of the Hancock Tower and the building that used to be the Sears Tower.  It's still snowing, but visibility has improved.  Hope to make it to McCormick Place tomorrow morning to see some more exhibits and meet a grad school friend for lunch.

'night!

I agree with Elmore's comments about revivals/revisals these days. They're really getting boring thanks to odd, humorless overanalysis.

That said, I had to overanalyze Company for a class and ended up with a 75-page paper on the show.

I agree with most everything BK wrote except for one thing. I think the audience loves Tick Tock. Michael Bennett certainly choreographed the heck out of it, but since the music wasn't Sondheim's (it was Shire's, if I recall correctly), I can understand why he would want it cut.

I actually like the show without Tick Tock because, without it, the sex between Bobby and April becomes just another scene of empty, meaningless sex. Depressing for the audience, to be sure, but it shows how dreary Bobby's life really is.

I've seen several productions of Company over the years. What has been interesting to me is how the audience reaction to the show has grown and changed over the years. A terrific community theater production back in the late 1970s drew a tepid response from audience. They didn't get laugh. They hadn't seen Oprah, et al. do endless discussions of commitment-phobia. And they blanked on the music. There was little applause at the end of numbers. Everything was polite but uninvolved

The most recent time I saw Company was the NPHarris version at a movie theater with a full house. They laughed uproariously at every line in the script and they blanked on the music, all of it.

Nice Brady Bunch-themed Snickers ad

Loved it and the Fiat ad. The rest of them were kind of meh.

The nadir for me was the Kim Kardashian ad.

I Love snow.  I'm very excited to get out in it.  Tomorrow will be a bit chilly though as it's going to be -14 air temp (not wind chill) tonight

I'll leave all the snow to you, Cillaliz. One of these days I might enjoy it again. But I moved from snow 23 years ago and I'm still waiting for the thought of it to be good again.

Well, except for the end of the game, the Superbowl party (and I didn't realize that it was also the host Chris' birthday!) was quite the success.  I got to chat with friends that I hadn't seen in a while and there was a LOT of food...all very good.  And cake!  We also had cake!  However, no pictures were taken by me.

I keep buying COMPANY cd's.....and I keep going back to the OBC. I also love the documentary that was made when they recorded the Cast Album.

I also am underwhelmed by the unnecessary updating of the show......I saw the Raul version where everyone played instruments and it was awful....also saw the NPH version and it was....well I don't know if it was worse, but it was just as bad.

I liked the NPH concert version, but then I love having theater productions filmed, so that added to the appeal for me.

JohnG, I know the audience loved Tick Tock - I loved Tick Tock and I think the show NEEDS Tick Tock and it should be there.  It's a wonderfully theatrical moment.  Of course you need a real choreographer and a real dancer to do it.

Wow! In the There are still great kids out there department. I was sitting here thinking about doing the driveway and walk (truthfully, I don't mind doing it) when three teenagers knocked on my door and said they would shovel my walk and driveway for 5 dollars a piece. Seriously, $5 to shovel isn't very much. That's hard work. I was so impressed that they are out in the cold and the wind helping people and actually working with a smile to make a little money, that I gave them $10 each.(still not much but it only took them about 15 minutes and I let them use my snowblower for the driveway) It isn't perfect, but the wind is still blowing so I'll touch it up later when the wind dies. They were surprised I gave them more than they asked for. They restored my faith in teenagers a little, it was worth it.

I'm glad it worked out for all of you.  I just read this article a few days ago about these high school kids who did the same thing and they got stopped by the local police because "Local law bans unlicensed door-to-door soliciting; police worried about 'state of emergency'.
